Porters disappear at the most incon venient times, but the woman who can tote her own bags is never stuck. Air travel has meant that most modern luggage is of light construct ion. But it’s built to take the jolts of bus and train journeys too. Tough vinyl-coated coverings do not scuff and can be kept looking like new with soap and . water. They've made possible luggage in all the colors of the rainbow and in patterns ranging all the way from the traditional simu lated leather to lovely tweeds and linen-like effects. For carefree holidays, take only the things you’re almost sure you will need. It’s embarrassing to arrive at a fishing lodge, with a bag full of party dresses or at a luxury resort with nothing but dungarees. Check before hand to make sure your clothes will be appropriate. For most travellers, packing is a headache. But a little planning will ease the pain. Put heavy articles like shoes and purses on the bottom of the case. Carefully fold suits and dresses sleeves across the front. Tuck and ends like clothes brushes belts into shoes and save space. Speaking of odds and ends, your polythene grocery bags for the trip. They’re good for shoes, sweaters, lingerie, wet washcloths and laundry. Besides protecting fragile garments, plastic bags keep small articles to gether for easy finding. By the way, you won’t need a large bag for laun dry if you include easily washed, no ironing fabrics wardrobe. A word about stay upright and cosmetic cases, haven’t a fitted case, carry cosmetics in unbreakable plastic jars and bottles. They’re light and pretty and there’s no danger of a spill to mar a ’‘holiday wardrobe. —Miss Alice Arbuckle, who has been visiting relatives and friends in Wingham and East Wawanosh during the past month returned to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Arbuckle, of Toronto, on Sunday. —Mr, and Mrs. Robert Rider and son, Brian, have returned from a trip through the States.
