OPENS IN JUNE
Work is progressing favorably on
the new $20,000 Bayfield Baptist
Church, which is expected to be of
ficially opened In June.
The 63 by 30 foot building is of brick
veneer, one-storey with basement and
tower, The church will have a bap
tistry, Sunday school rooms and nurs
ery. "
The church is equipped with modern
lighting and heating system and will
seat 140 people, Space has also been
provided for a pastor’s study and a
board room in the tower,

A Man Who Has Shown
The play "Ada Gives First Aid,"
presented last Wednesday evening in
the Community Hall, was given before
a large and interested audience, The
players were members of the Woman’s
Association of Bluevale United
Church,
The time represented was during
the Second World War. Mrs, Ada
Wilde, played by Mrs. Alex McCrack-
in, planned to help the war effort by
giving lessons in first aid to her
friends, How she succeeded is the
theme of the play, and amusing situ
ations and lively dialogue made en
tertainment for everyone.
Other members of the cast were:
Mrs. George Hetherington, Mrs,
Stanley Darling, Mrs. Elmer Sellers,
Mrs. W.‘ J. Peacock, Mrs. G. Hall,
Mrs. C, B. Hoffman, Mrs. Sparling
Johnston.
There was algo a good musical pro
gram, Rev. R. A. Brook being chair
man.
Readings were given by Keith
Johnston and Mr, Melville Mathers.
Mrs. Alex Corrigan, played a piano
solo and Mrs. Oliver Moffatt
Ross Peacock, a piano duet.
William Smith favored with a
Four school girls, Susan Sellers,
queline Kerr, Phyllis Elliott and Marie
Johnston sang “Flow Gently Sweet
Afton” and a trio was sung by Eleanor
Smith, Joyce Hoffman and Helen
Haines.
For a conclusion to the program
the eight members of the cast sang
two lively choruses, “I Want a Man”
and “The Phone Bell Rang.”
Mrs. A. Corrigan was accompanist
for the evening.
Tea and Bake Sale
The second and third line group of
the Woman’s Association of the Unit
ed Church held a very successful tea
and sale at the home of Mrs. John
Wickstead on Thursday afternoon. It
was well attended and selling was
brisk, baking, House
goods and novelties
disposed of.

Pupils of Bluevale School, under the
direction of their teacher, Miss Isohel
Speir, attended the Women’s Insti
tute amateur variety concert in Brus
sels on Friday night and took part
in the program. Sharon Grubbe won
first for her dance, a chorus from
the school was second in that class
and Phyllis Elliott and Jacqueline
Kerr also sang a duet, in good form.

Presbyterian W.M.S.
The May meeting of the Belmore
Presbyterian Women’s Missionary So
ciety was held on Thursday afternoon,
Ma.y 19, in the church schoolroom
with Mrs. R. McKague, first vice-
president presiding.
The meeting opened with Psalm 28
and Scripture reading by Miss Jean
Dickson. Mrs. R. Inglis traced the
spreading of the Gospel to Samaria
and during Paul’s early ministry.
Mrs. Zinn reported the afternoon'
session of the Presbyterial. She was
deeply impressed with Miss Bricker’s
address “A Canadian Looks at the
Church in Asia.”
It was agreed to hold the June
meeting in the evening. The roll
call was answered by naming a
missionary in India. The evening
session of the Presbyterial was re
ported by Mrs. A. Mundell and Miss
L. Darling. Mrs. K. C. Press, referred
to the Glad Tidings for many items
of interest.
Mrs. McKague then called upon
Mrs. Wm. Darling who presented life
memberships to Mrs. Jas. Dickson
and Mrs. Wm. Curie, praising the
excellent work these ladies have done
as conveners in the society.
The topic, a dialogue describing the
farming problems of the people of
India, was taken by Mrs. R. Baird,
assisted by Miss A. Dickson and Mrs.
Kailer. After the singing of hymn
381, Mrs. A. Jeffray closed the meet
ing with prayer.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Brown, of To
ronto, spent the holiday week-end
with Rev. and Mrs. Harold West, at
the manse.
Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Lowry, of
Portage-la-Prairle, Man., visited last
week with his sister, Mrs. Will Nickel,
and Mr. Nickel.
Rev. Stanley and Mrs. Keast, with
their small son and daughter, of Free
hold, N.Y., are spending ten days
with Mr. and. Mrs. Isaac Stokes and
famify and other friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Fitch visited
the past week with their son and
family at Weston. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle
, Fitch brought them home and spent
the week-end with friends here.
