Holds Thankoffering The Eastei* Thanofferjng meeting of .the Women’s Missionary Society of Wingham United Church was held on Tuesday, in charge of Mrg. P. Gowans. The Easter Scripture was taken by Miss M. Turner and Mrs. Wm. Field offered prayer. A very inspiring Easter message was given by Mrs. Thos, Bower, and following this Airs. E, Lewis sang the solo, “The Stranger of Galilee,” The temperance secre-. tary, Mrs. Field, gave a report of activities in that work as shown in several areas in this district. Mrs, McLaughlin reported that two quiltings had been held after which bales of quilts, blankets and used clothing were sent to Overseas Relief headquarters. Following the thankoffering, a new life member was received. The presi­ dent, Airs. Roulston, closed the meet­ ing with prayer. —Mr, and Mrs. J. A. Wilson and Mr. and Mrs, Fred L- Davidson re­ turned on Sunday from a trip to Florida. —Mr. and Mrs. F, R, Howson and Mr, and Mrs, Charles Lloyd returned on Saturday from a trip to Florida. —Mrs. Thomas J. Little Barbara Ritchie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ritchie, of Wingham, is visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Edward Robinson, Jim and Bill. A presentation was held in the Donnybrook church basement on Mon­ day evening in honor of Miss Olive Jefferson, Reg.N., of Toronto, bride­ elect. The evening was spent in games and contests. Mrs. Norman Thompson .gave the address of good wishes and Mrs. John Thompson pre­ sented the bride-elect with a beauti­ ful reversible .blanket on ^behalf of the old friends of Donnybrook church. Olive gave her thanks and extended an invitation to all to visit her in To­ ronto. * "*■ Miss Irene Jefferson, of Dunnville, is spending the holidays at the home of her mother, Mrs. Christina Jeffer­ son. A number from here attended the miscellaneous shower for AIlss Olive Jefferson, held at the home of Airs. Frank Pentlahd on Saturday evening. The bride-elect was presented with many beautiful gifts. Aliss Jefferson entertained her friends by showing pictures taken1 in England, Scotland and Europe on her trip to the corona­ tion. A bountiful lunch was served by Airs. Pentland and daughters. Air. FLOOD CONTROL STUDY PLANNED The question of flood control at Drayton 'will be discussed at the April session of Wellington County Council with the Grand Valley Conservation Authority, Reeve Andrews, of Dray­ ton, has been informed. R. K. Kilborn and Associates, Tor­ onto, will investigate the situation and make an estimate on the cost of a flood control survey. The business section of the village is endangered more with each flood due to the river undermining the east bank.
