I wish on behalf of the students of Wingham District High School, to express our sincere sympathy to our principal and to his family on the death of a beloved wife and mother. Such a loss is not easy for us to un derstand but we feel it must be God’s Will for “He doeth all things well and all things work together for good to them that love Him.” Donelda MacDonald 0-0-0 News Items One ' of our Commercial students, Donna McLean, was removed to Wingham Hospital at the beginning of this week, where she underwent an appendectomy operation. We hear that Donna is recovering favourably and we all wish her the speediest re covery and hope she will soon be back with us in Room XI to rejoin the HIGH SCHOOL Highlights “Commercial Girls.” Another of our Commercial stud ents, Anne Todd, entered her Aber deen Angus steer in the Queen’s Guineas at the Royal Fair in Toronto. It was placed in the first prize group out of forty-four entries in the Aber deen Angus section. We all extend our heartiest congratulations, Anne. Mary Ellen Cummins 0-0-0 A DISTINGUISHED STUDENT When we were writing examina tions, Miss Davis happened to ask one of the Grade IX students if he knew enough about their geography exam on Africa that afternoon. He replied that he should because he had lived there for 13 years. We are very lucky to have John “Kit” Norminton in our school. I know for instance that he speaks English, Dutch and German fluently. John was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and later moved to Orange Free State before going to England last January. After travell ing through Europe, he is now living in Teeswater. He attended an Army College in The Wlngham Advance-Time*, Wednesday, December 15, 1M4 South Africa where he spoke English’ but had to give orders to his platoon in Dutch. He found that England and South Africa have a higher standard of education than we have in Canada. Main points are stressed more and more and there aren’t as many details brought into the subject. I a good idea!) John isn’t too fond of Shopwork or Physical Education which is taught by too many rules instead of by experience. John says he likes it here very much although it is much colder, He finds the vegetation something different as the green is more abundant here. Of course the people dress differently too. His family finds the cost of living much higher here. John likes the weather but maybe some of us think that we would like it in South Africa better. If you want to know about the country, I’m sure John would be glad to tell you about it. We are happy to have someone with such ex periences in school with us. It adds to the ease and enjoyment of living, it places a host of “electrical servants” at your beck and call’twenty-four hours of the day. But the extent to which you can use these electrical servants depends upon how wisely your home is wired. Inadequate wiring is inefficient . . . even dangerous. Adequate wiring lets you operate your lighting ana appli ances at peak efficiency at all times. What is adequate wiring? Briefly, it means the correct size of three wire service to the house, the proper number of circuits and correct size of wire within the home, together with sufficient outlets in each room to take care of your electrical require ments both today and in the future. Thanks to “power at cost” you can economi cally use all these electrical servants in your home—if you have provided for them. Be sure, whether you plan to build or remodel, that adequate wiring has top priority on your check list of things you need. We will be glad to help you solve your wiring problems. THE FUSE J When too great a load is placed Sr—ra on a circuit, or 'yrrr when a "short” occurs, the fuse "burns out" and Cuts off the power. This is your protection.
