They were both presented with identical table lamps and end tables, aluminum kitchen utensils and can- nister set. Mr. Bruce Wallace read the address. Both made suitable re plies. Timm’s orchestra supplied music for dancing, Initiate Three Members The L.O.B.A. Morning Star Lodge No, 131 met in their hall for the regular meeting with Mrs. Susan Gib son in the chair. Three new members were initiated into the order. Money was donated to the Scott Mission. Plans were made to send Christmas boxes to shut-in members. Lunch was served at the close. Silver Star Mission Band The Silver Star Mission Band met in the basement of the United Church on Sunday morning Sharon Pollock, president, and Mary Johnston, assis tant, secretary, were in charge. The meeting opened with a carol, and all repeated the Member’s purpose and Lord’s Prayer, The Scripture lesson was read by Dianne Carswell, Mrs. W. E. Hainstock led in prayer and read a story “A Christmas Gift no Money can give’’. The minutes were read and the business discussed. Forty-one answer ed the roll call. Glenna and Ruth Hibberd sang a duet. The offering was taken by Marjorie Connell. Mrs. Robert Gibson told the story from the Study Book, “Fig Tree Village’’. She illustrated her story with a drawing made with artificial snow. The election of officers was con ducted by Mrs. J. H, Pollock, with Dianne Carswell elected president, Mrs. W. 'E. Hainstock gave the children a Christmas treat. The clos ing prayer was sung. C. G. I. T. Party The Fordwich C.G.I.T. held annual Christmas party in the ment of the United Church. Lunch and candy was served by Evelyn Simmons, Shirley Ashton and Marilyn Cooper. The meeting closed with taps. Vesper Service On Sunday evening the annual Ves per service of C. G. I. T, was held in the United Church with Elizabeth Patterson as leader assisted by Mari lyn Cooper and Mrs. J, H. Pollock. The candlelighters were Donna Wray, Elizabeth Ann Cooper and Donna Johnston. The choir under the direction of Shirley Ashton sang the carol “Jen- netta Isabella”, Marlene Johnston and Allison McCann sang a duet. Margaret McCann and Alice Cun ningham received the offering. The recessional featured a candlelighting ceremony. W. M. S. Meeting The Christmas meeting of the Wo men’s Missionary Society of the Un ited Church was held at the home of Mrs. Gordon Brown. After the open ing hymn, Mrs. Ray Cooper read a story on “The Keeping of Christmas”. The minutes of the previous meet- were read by Miss Minnie McElwaine, the secretary., The roll call brought a splendid response of Christmas thoughts. The Candle Ceremonial was given by Mrs. Carl Ettinger, Mrs. Emma Williamson and Mrs. George Baker. Mrs. Gilkinson led in prayer. Mrs. Hird favoured with a lovely solo ac companied by Mrs. Ken Graham at the piano. Miss Violet Beswitherick led in prayer. Readings of the work of- our mis sionaries in India were given by Mrs. Hainstock, Mrs. Wm. Wilson and Mrs. Harold Pollock, after which Mrs. Harold Doig led in prayer, closing the meeting with a hymn. A social few minutes was spent singing Christmas carols after a dainty lunch was serv ed by the hostess. Newbridge Ladies’ Aid The Ladies’ Aid of Newbridge Un ited church met Tuesday at the home of Mrs. W. Hargrave for their Christ mas meeting with 15 members and 1 visitor. Mrs. Ben Fallis, president opened the meeting in the usual man ner after the business was taken care of. Rev. Hird presided for election of officers for 1955 which are as follows: pres., Mrs. Ben Fallis; vice-pres., Mrs. Leppington; secretary, Miss Elva Fos ter; treasurer, Mrs. Carl Shoemaker; Missionary pres., Mrs. Robt. Hood; organist, Mrs. Peden Connel. Several Christmas contests and games were then held and the meet ing closed with prayer. Lunch was served and a social half hour was spent. Hostesses were Mrs. T. Rade- macker, Mrs. W. Wallace and Mrs. P. Connel. Trinity W. A. The regular monthly .meeting of the W. A. of Trinity Church, Fqrd- wich, was held on Thursday in the Sunday School rooms with the presi dent presiding and opening with a hymn followed by the Lord’s Prayer. The roll call, a verse for Christmas, was answered by 13 members. Reports were given for the W. A. by Mrs. Hargrave, showing a balance of $75.28; for the . Guild by Mrs. Frank Graham, $109.59; the Little Helpers by Mrs. W. Sothern, $48.52. Mrs. Crosby Sothern then presided for the election of officers for 1955. Elected were Honorary pres., Mrs. M. Armstrong; pres., Mrs. Stan Forester; 1st. vice, Mrs. Ruby Foster; 2nd. vice, Mrs. Emmerson Ferguson; secretary, Mrs. Jim Strong; treasurer, Mrs. Emmer son Hargrave; sec.-treas. of the Guild, Mrs. Frank Graham; Living Message, Mrs. Gamble; quilt committee, Mrs. M. Armstrong, Mrs. R. Foster and Mrs. J. Boyd; sick committee, Mrs. R. Allan, Mrs. E. Hargrave and Mrs. J. Strong; altar committee, Mrs. R. Fos ter and Mrs. Crosby Sothern; press reporter, Mrs. W. Sothern; education al secretary, Mrs. Crosby Sothern; president Little Helpers, Mrs. Roy Simmons; secretary, Mrs. W. Sothern; assistants, Mrs. B. Armstrong and Mrs. W. Hargrave; auditors, Mrs. R.I Foster and Beatrice Wade. The remainder of the afternoon was given over to the conveners of the Christmas program, consisting of several Christmas film strips which was much enjoyed. Several contests were held and the meeting closed with prayer. Lunch was served. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Clare Harris spent a day last week in Fergus and Guelph. Mr. and Mrs. W. Hargrave and Douglas, and Mr. and Mrs. E. Har grave spent Wednesday in Kitchener. Mrs. Bruce Sothern underwent an appendectomy operation on Wednes- ’ day in the Palmerston Hospital.
