Mr. and Mrs- Carl Deans and dau­ ghters, of Guelph,* were Sunday vis­ itors with Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mc­ Dowell. Sympathy is, extended to the family and relatives in the death of Mrs- John S. Scott (formerly Alice Harri­ son) at Wingham General Hospital, on Wednesday, December 1st, ip her 86th year. The funeral was held from Belgrave Uniter Church on Saturday, December 4th. Mrs. Bred McQuiilin was hostess for the December meeting of the Women’s Institute, when 27 ladies were in attendance, Mrs. Elwood Bar­ bour the president, was. In the chair. The roll call was responded to with, a Christmas verse and a cash dona-’ tion to the Wingham Hospital. It was later decided to add enough from the funds to make this donation $10. $2 was donated to the Christmas Seal Fund.’ The motto "Strife arid sorrow can­ not enter when Christmas Joy dwells” was taken by Mrs. Barbour. Mrs. Lloyd Hunter read a very fine papei* on the topic "Christmas”, Mrs. Ches­ ter Taylor played “Christmas Beils” as a piano solo, A door prize of a beautiful milk glass vase, given by Mr. Wm. Schmidt, of Lucknow, was wbn by Mrs. Fred McQuiilin. Miss W. D. Rutherford read the story of hand-made milk glass. AU the ladies enjoyed the exchange of Christmas gifts and a pleasant Social hour was enjoyed when lunch' was served by Mrs. Jas. Curran, Mrs, E. W, Rice and Mrs. Wm. Purdon. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Miller and Larry, of London, were week-end visi­ tors with Mr. and Mrs. Chester Tay­ lor. ■Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Miller were in Stratford on Saturday visiting their daughter, Margaret, student nurse at the Genera] Hospital there. Margaret has been a patient in the Hospital recovering from a severe cold. Members of the Calf Club, their leaders and parents attended the Huron County 4-H Club * annual achievement night at Exeter on Fri­ day evening. They travelled by Al­ lan Reid’s bus. . Mr. John McQuiilin left on Friday for Windsor where he will spend the next few months with Mr. and Mrs. Irvin McCabe. Miss Carolyn Gibson, of Amberley, and Miss Marie Campbell, of Belfast, students at the Stratford Teachers’ College are practice teaching at the St. Helen’s school this week. SENIOR WOMEN'S MISSION CIRCLE The Senior Women’s Mission Circle of the Wingham Baptist Church, held their monthly meeting at the home of Mrs, J. A. Kelly, on Wednesday afternoon. The meeting was opened by the singing of a hymn and Mrs. Falconer offered prayer. The secretary read the minutes of the previous meeting and called the roll ’followed by the treasurer’s report. Mrs. C. R. Cantelon was in charge of the program. Collar read a letter from her daughter, Miss Laura Collar, a missionary in Afripa, follow­ ed ■> by a poem read by Mrs. Kelly, "Perhaps, perhaps today.'* A season of prayer was conducted by several members of the Circle. The meeting closed by the singing of a hymn. A dainty lunch was served and a social time enjoyed.
