To Hold Election on Monday For Howick Township Council Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Stokes, June and Doris, of Belmore, visited on Sun­ day with Mr. and Mrs. John Thorn­ ton. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Edgar, of Ayr, have been visiting with the Edgar and Strong families. Mrs. John Gowdy visited Mr. Joe Vagan and Mr. Sam Stinson, who are in Wingham Hospital and Mc­ Kay Nursing Home respectively. They both are improving nicely. Carol Roll returned home from Wingham Hospital last. week. She is recovering from an attack of virus pneumonia. Mr. Bill .Nay is also feel­ ing better and is home after a short stay in the Wingham Hospital, Mr. Cecil Day returned Friday to the home pf his daughter, Mrs. Clarence ’ Sparling, after spending some time in the Listowel Memorial Hospital. 1'1 STOPI WiTak^Chance. Subjects discussed were: New Wingham District High School, County Home, Clinton, Huron County Court House at Goderich, Children’s Aid, bridges, roads, snow plowing and grants. The election will be on Monday, Dec. 6th. Fanner’s Night Howick. Lions Club held tfceir an­ nual “Farmer’s Night” on Monday evening in the Gorrie Community Hall when 85 sat down to a turkey banquet. Members of the Guild of St. Martha of the Anglican Church cater­ ed. Mr. Knowlston "Hueston, presi­ dent of the Lions Club was master of ceremonies. . Mr. S. Five members of the Palmerston Lions Club were present. Accepts Call to WestonIt has been announced that the Rev. R. J, Boggs, pastor of the Molesworth and Gorrie Presbyterian churches, has accepted a call to the Presbyterian here from Ireland in September 1951 and has been very popular as a public .speaker in the community as well as in his own church. The best wishes of all will go with Mr. and Mrs. Boggs and their family. Woman’s Auxiliary The annual meeting of the W.A. of St. Stpehen’s Church will be held on Friday afternoon, Dec. 10th (note change from regular date) at the home of Mrs. Norman Wade. Roll Call, a verse of your favourite Christ­ mas hymn and a suggestion for next year’s program. —- Santa to Come to Gorrie Santa Claus is to pay a visit to Gorrie on Saturday, Dec. 11th, He is expected to arrive around 2 p.m. and will proceed to the Community Hall. Mrs. Ed. McCallum The community was shocked to learn of the sudden passing on Mon­ day morning of Mrs. Ed. McCallum, con. C Howick. Although not in the best of health, death was unexpected. Sympathy goes out to the bereaved husband, son and daughter. Funeral arrangements have not been complet­ ed at time of writing. United Church W.M.S. The Woman's Missionary Society of Gorrie United Church will hold their Christmas meeting at the home of Mrs. Ewart Whitfield on Thursday evening, December 2nd at 8.15 p.m. Program Committee, Mrs. Irving Toner, Mrs. H. Ashton, Mrs. A. Tay­ lor, Mrgr~G. Brown. Christmas Bazaar Members of the Guild of St. Mar­ tha, of the Anglican Church served afternoon tea in the Community Hall on Saturday afternoon. .^Christmas decorations were used on small tea tables and lovely yellow mums cen­ tred the larger table with lace cloth, from which dainty refreshments were served. Home baking, surprise pack­ ages, vegetables, Christmas gifts, aprons and handwork were offered for sale. W. M. S. to Pack Bale Kindly remember this is the last week for donations of used clothing and quilt patch, bundles to be left at the Gorrie United Church for Korea. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Ransom L. McCaig, of Swift Current, Sask., visited with the former’s sister, Mrs. T. L. Mcln- nes and Mr. Mclnnes. Mr- and Mrs. Dap Fulton of Wroxeter, also visited at the same home. Mrs. Bertha Plant is spending a week with relatives at Alienford. . Mr, and Mrs. E. H. Strong were in Goderich on Wednesday evening for the Warden’s banquet in Knox Pres­ byterian Church. ■ Our sympathy is extended to Mrs. Cameron Edgar .whose sister, Mrs. Wm. Close, ' Ethel, passed away in Listowel Hospital on Thursday morn­ ing, also .to the aged mother, Mrs. Martha Breckenridge! Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hyndman and family, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Blair McIntosh, at Listowel. Mr. Geo. Keil left on Friday for a three weeks’ motor trip to Florida, and other points. Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Homer, Mrs. Gordon Henderson and son, Allan, of Palmerston, visited Mrs. Mae -Jack- son on Friday. Mrs, J. McEwen and Helen, of Wroxeter, were Sunday visi­ tors with Mrs. Jackson. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Short and Carol and Miss Donna Dick, of Fer­ gus, visited Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Short on Sunday. They also. visited Miss Kate Earngey at the McKay Nursing Home, Wingham. Miss Earngey has been quite ill. Mrs. Bessie Bennett; Fordwich, spent last week with her sister, Mrs. Robt. Ferguson and Mr. Ferguson: Mr. Jas. Strong, New York City, has returned from an extended trip to Europe and the British Isles, and is visiting his brothers, Messrs. Welles­ ley and John Strong. Mrs. Mae Jackson left on Tuesday to spend some time in Wallace Town­ ship. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mus­ grove on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Robt.
