My name is placed before you for position of Reeve for the coming election. I appreciate your support in the past, and am looking forward to your standing behind me as before. I have always done the best I could for the municipality. This last two years we have built more roads and placed more gravel than in any other previous two years, but still have been able to lower the tax rate one mill. If I could have an­ other year with you, our program was to have the same plan of a lower tax rate. Thanking you again and wishing you Season’s Greetings. HAROLD GOWDY Reeve of Howick Township Annual Turkey Draw and Belmore-McIntosh YPU Makes Plans for Christmas Party home last Wednesday afternoon for a quilting and work meeting, and to en­ joy the social time that goes with it. Rev. M. McNabb cojnmenced a ser­ ies of sermons in the Presbyterian church on Sunday afternoon on “The Christian meaning of Christmas,” The text for Sunday was “They shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is God with us”, Bruce Darling sang a solo. Carsons of Gorrie were working here last week installing a new oil furnace in the Presbyterian Church. The pupils of Belmore school, under thp leadership of their teacher, Miss K. McLennan are preparing a Christ­ mas concert to be presented in the school on Wednesday evening, Dec­ ember 8th. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Aitken and family, of near Kincardine, Mr. and Mrs. Earl McNee and, Mr. _ Thursday'with relatives here. ’The Belmore United Church held a ai,ld Mrs. Ken Dickson attended a very successful Congregational sup-! Shur-Gain banquet at Mount Forest The regular meeting of Belmore- McIntosh Y.P.U. was held in the Mc­ Intosh church basement on Thursday evening. November 25th, with Ray­ mond Gowdy presiding. The meeting opened with a hymn, followed by a Scripture reading by Shirley Boyd. It was decided by motion of Rev. West and Wilma Haskins to have a Christmas party on Thursday night, December 16th, and on motion of Frances Inglis and Mr. West it was planned to draw tickets for the ex­ change of gifts, the value of which was not to exceed 75c. Eleanor Horton and Earl Fitch gave an interesting talk on '‘Citizenship and Community Service.” A hymn was sung and the meeting closed with the Mizpah benediction. The next meeting will be held on December 2nd. Congregational Supper per in the Communnty Hall on Friday evening. About ninety sat down to the well laden tables. After the supper hour a short programme of Chistmas songs by the children, with Mrs. C. Douglas at the piano, was enjoyed, which Mr. West showed several beau­ tiful and educational films. All joined in repeating the Mizpah benediction, bringing an enjoyable evening to a close. Sponsors Dance on Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. John Fitch Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Harvey McDermitt and Larry, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pitcher, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Montgomery, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Dettman and Revel, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Renwick on Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs, Glenn Will, Janice, and Vicki, spent the'week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Justin Will. Mr. and Mrs, N. Hunkin visited the theme “Discovery and Missions’1 with Bible readings taken from the i Book of Acts, Psalm 714 was read in J unison followed by the singing of a j hymn. Mrs. T, Abraham gave a reading on Temperance “A Challenge to Huron County to give the Canada Temperance Act a square deal”. It could be applied fo Bruce County as well. The roll call, "How can I keep Christ in Christmas” was very ap­ propriate for this time of year, and called for greater remembrance of the great gift God gave to us on Christ­mas Day, and for less selfishness. Mrs. Harper gave a reading on Stewardship "A dime out of every dollar for God”. Mrs, Rowland Ballagh gave a .very interesting chapter from the Study Book “The Christian contribution tp the new India”, As this was the annual meeting Rev. Harold West took charge of the election of officers for the coming year. Mrs. Rutherford closed the meeting with prayer and the hostess served a dainty lunch. noon. Music was supplied by Reever’s Orchestra. It is the intention of the boys'to hold a dance every Thursday night with the proceeds going to the hockey club. Seventeen Tables At the weekly card party last Mon­ day night, seventeen tables were in play. Those in charge were Mr. and Mrs, Joe Simmons, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Doubledee and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Cathers. The prizes were awarded to Mrs. Justin Will, Mrs. Tommy Parker, William Merkley and Justin Will. The solo prize was won by Elmer Haskins. Personals Rev. John Button and Mrs. Button, of Atwood, spent Monday with Mr. and Mi's, Carl Fitch and family. _ Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Hilliar, of "De­ troit, and Mr. and Mrs. Peter West, of Owen Sound, spent the week-end with Rev. Harold and Mrs. West. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rowatt, of Vancoy, Sask., spent a few days this past week with Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Renwick. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gowdy attend­ ed the Huron County Warden’s ban­ quet at Goderich last Wednesday night. Mr. and Mrs. James Aitken, of De­ lisle, Sask., are visiting his sister, Mrs. J. Scott Inglis and other rela­ tives and friends. Little Ian Inglis had his tonsils re­ moved at Wingham General • Hospital on Thursday and came home on Fri­ day morning. Mr. Jack Cathers, of Gorrie, was a supper guest of Mr. and ’ Mrs. Harry Gowdy on Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Lowry, of Nor- anda, Quebec, spent a few days last week with his sister, Mrs. Will Nickel and Mr. Nickel. Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Schumacher and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dustow, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Yack, in Kitchener last Monday, then- went on to Preston and to the hospi­ tal at Galt to see Orval Dustow. Or- val was able to return home later in the week. His many friends regret that his right elbow was so badly in­ jured in his recent fall that part of the bone had to be removed, so he will be considerably handicapped. Inci­ dentally he fell 15 feet, not 45 as was reported in last week’s paper. Sixteen ladies of the Presbyterian Church met at Mrs. Ross McKague’fr M. L. Cathers on Thursday evening when friends and neighbours, gathered to honor Mr. Tom McGlynn, who is leav­ ing the community to reside in Walk­ erton. During the evening Mr. Mc­ Glynn was presented with several gifts, for which he thanked those present. Cards and crokinole were enjoyed with the prizes going to Mrs. Wm. Merkley and Nelson Hunkin for cards and to Ira Neil for crokinole. Lunch was served by the ladies. United Church W.M.S.
