We hope you will enjoy every minute of your stay here, and that your memories of these and other days in Wingham will be amongst the happiest of your life. Looking back over 75 years of Wingham’s history, we’re rather proud of our town. Not because it grew big and prosperous and became a city, but because, in spite of growth and change, it preserved its own identity and re= mained the warm, friendly town it always was. We like to think that Wingham is a busy town and a progressive town. We’re proud of our new public school, the new district high school which is now being built, and the new hospital wing which will soon be started. We flatter ourselves that Wingham has most of the advantages of modern civiliz ation, while keeping some of the disadvantages at arm’s length. And we like to think that in spite of the progress and change, Wingham has kept the charm for which so many of her sons all over the country remember her, Ours is a small community by most standards, but it’s a happy and enthus= iastic one. Looking ahead to future progress while remembering the tradi= tion of the past, Wingham is still a town where nobody makes a fortune and nobody needs to. ITS CITIZENS AND ITS COUNCIL
