days among the children of the vil
lage, The reason It’s almost time to
go again to Camp Kitchigami for a
holiday. Many have signed to go but
there is still this week for reservations. Through the kindness of Howick
Lions Club the boys will leave on
July 30th and the girls one week later,
August 6th. A grand programme has been planned for which Listowel Re
creational group and Howick Lions Club will be responsible. Ken Edgar
of this village will be one of the lead
ers and if there are any children in this community who would like to go
contact him or Harvey McDermitt, of
Fordwich this week.Restrict Dumping
Because Wroxeter dumping ground
operations have not been too satis
factory the village trustees have found it necessary to have restricted hours
for the use of the grounds. Dating
from now until December 1st. the
grounds will be open and a man in charge Thursday afternoons from 1
o’clock to 5, and Friday evening 7 to
9. From December to April on Thursday afternoon only, The reason for
the restrictions is that citizens using the dumping grounds here, piled the
rubbish just inside the gate until it
was impossible to get through. It is
hoped this new arrangement will give
better service to all.Leaving for Vacation
Following next Sunday's services
Rev. E. W. Todd will leave for his
vacation. During his absence there
will be two holiday Sundays, August
1st. and 15th. On August Sth, service
will be taken by Mr. Cunningham, of Listowel. and on August 22nd., Rev.
George Wylie, Otterville, who is well
known here, will be guest speaker.
Mr. Todd expects to return to the
charge for the final Sunday of the
month, August 29th.,Alberta Visitors
An interesting visitor in our village
this holiday season was Mrs. John
Fleming, of Didsbury, Alberta. Mrs.
Fleming, the former Edith Gibson,
was a native of this village, a daugh
ter of the late Thomas Gibson, for
some years member of Parliament. It
was fifty years since Mrs. Fleming
had visited Wroxeter and she enjoyed
meeting old friends. She was a guest
of Misses Elsie and Marian Gibson. When in Wroxeter she lived in the house now owned by Mr. Mac Allen,
of Montreal.Howick Lions Frolic
Wroxeter village park is being made
ready for the annual Howick Lions
annual frolic. This year they plan to
have the Palmerston High School
Trumpet Band, Walker Hart, comed
ian, and on the second night a square
dance competition. There will be all
sorts of other attractions and games
fireworks both evenings, July 29 and
30. $400.00 in prizes will be drawn, half
each night.
The Howick Lions Club who are
ever ready to. serve the community and especially interested in the wel
fare of the children, deserve the full
support of every citizen. Their annual
frolic is- the big project of the year
and this year they plan to make it
better than ever.
