This fact re suited in a, smaller attendance than sometimes, as haying was still jn progress on many farms, but the children were out in full force. While the older children enjoyed a game of ball, the smaller ones kept the swings, slides and wading pool busy. Later races of all kinds were feat­ured, and when this was over, every­ one was seated around the long tables under the trees and did justice to an ample picnic lunch. Women’s Institute The July meeting of the Women’s Institute was held in the Community Hall last Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Elliott, president, was in the chair and Mrs. Reuben Appleby, health conven­ er had charge of the program. There were 23 ladies and 10 children present. The roll call was answered by- verses on health, each beginning with a let- i ter of the alphabet and each verse read in that order. The Glcnannan school children favored with two numbers, “The Jolly Miller’ and "The Blacksmith” both well rendered with­ out music. Billy Jeffery sang his.prize winning song “The Little Prince.’’ Shirley Baird gave a reading “Mary’s Cold" and .Donald Eadie gave one on “Posture,” Mrs. Appleby gave a thoughtful reading “In the Morning Make Thy Seed to Flourish”. The guest of the afternoon was Mr. W, J, Freeman of Teeswater, who gave recordings taken at the famous Health Clinics in St. Petersburg, Flor­ida, last winter, One was “Food Facts and Fallacies”, the other on “Arth­ ritis”, These were much enjoyed and the ladies gave him a hearty vote of thanks for this kindly service.A delicious.lunch was served by the hostesses, Mrs. T. Abraham, Mrs. A. Fitch, Mrs. C. Fitch, Mrs. K. Jackson, Mrs. H. Gowdy, Mrs, W. Merkley, Mrs. E. Merkley and Mrs. D, Eadie. During lunch Mr. Freeman played recordings of sing-songs at the beach in St. Petersburg and these were much enjoyed. Attend Reunion Mr. and Mrs. Ira Leeson and family attended the MacDongld . 00th anni­versary reunion, at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Kenneth MacDonald, north of Teeswater, last Saturday after­ noon. It is a hundred years since the Mac^- Donaid farm was taken up as Crown land and it has been in the family ever since. About 150 guests were present from Coiumbus, Ohio; Detroit, Flint, Ann Arbor and Warren. Michigan and Lon­ don, Tilsonburg, Trenton, Galt, Wal­ kerton and other places, On Sunday 'morning all gathered in the Presby­ terian church, Teeswater, Rev. Doug­las McDonald, of Tilsonburg, preached the sermon. The church which was filled to capacity, was artistically de-? corated with white lilies, Happy Helpers The Happy Helpers Mission Band have packed a bale for overseas re­lief, consisting of 4 bath towels, 6 face cloths, 6 cakes of soap, 6 large combs, 6 small combs, 6 boxes of tooth powder, 6 tooth brushes, bobby pins, hair-clasps, shoe laces and two scrap books, made by the juniors. West-Chappel A wedding of interest took place on Saturday at Knox Presbyterian Church, Burgoyne, Ont., when Anna Verna Chappel of Owen Sound, daugh­ ter of Mr. and Mrs. George Chappel, R.R, 2, Port Elgin became the bride of Peter Templar West, younger son of Rev. Harold and Mrs. West of Belmore. The groom’s father Rev. H. West was the officiating clergyman. Mr, J. G. Clark played the wedding music and Mrs. Keith Welsh sang, ‘’Pepausfl?* and *‘I Love You Truly”. Miss Bernice Chappel of Galt war her sister’s maid of honor and Miar- Beth Geddes, of Owen Sound and. Miss Jean West, of Belmore, were- the bridesmaids, Mr. Michael West, brother of the groom was best man. The ushers were James Heighes, of Owen Sound, and Harry Chappel of Port Elgin*A reception was held at the Saugeen Golf Club. The bridal couple will go to Muskoka on their wedding trip, after which they will take up residence in Owen Bound.
