Scott Lifelong Resident The funeral of the late Mary Eliza­ beth Scott, who died in the Wingham Hospital after a five week Illness, was held on Saturday, July 10th, from the Currie funeral home, Wingham. Her pastor, the Rev. R. D. Currie, of Cal­ vin Presbyterian Church, of which she was a member conducted the service. She was a Life member of the Wom­ en’s Missionary Society of the Pres­ byterian Church of Canada. The late Miss Scott was in her 89th year, and was born in East Wawanosh at Lot 37, Con. 9, on January 20th, 1806 and lived there during her entire lifetime. She was the eldest of the family of the late Robert Scott and Mary Ann Barberree, pioneer settlers of the township. She was of a kindly disposition al* ways willing to lend a helping hand at any time, She leaves to mourn her passing, two brothers, John T. and Walter S., at" home. One sister and three brothers predeceased her. Interment took place in the Bran­ don cemetery. Pallbearers were her six nephews, Lome, Robert, Kenneth and Mac Scott, Elmer and Arnold Bruce. Those attending the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. John Cockburn and Alfred Scott, Guelph; Mr. and Mrs. Lew Cameron and Mr. and Mrs. Archie Scott, of Elora; Mrs, Martha Bosanworth, Mrs. Wm. Scott and Mr, Robert Scott, of Alma; Mr. and Mrs. John McMillan, of Listowel; Mr. arid Mrs. Gordon Robb, of Ash­ field; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Scott, of Dunnville; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Har­ rison, of Seaforth. Edgar Reunion Held At Teeswater Park The annual Edgar re-union wap held on Saturday, July 3rd., in Teeswater - Park. There was an attendance of " 85. During the afternoon there waa a ball game as well as" races for the boys and girls and for some that were past juvenile stage. The oldest man was Robert Ireland, and th$ youngest, Glenn Jacques. The sports committee were Mr, and Mrs. T. Edgar and Mr. and Mrs. A. Mun­ dell. The Howick council met in clerk’s office, Gorrie, according to journment, the reeve, H. Gowdy, in the chair. All members were present. The minutes of the last regular meet­ ing were read and on motion of Gib­ son and Kaufman were adopted as read. Carried, McMichael - Haskins—That we give the East .Howick Township Schoo] Area Board an advance of $2000,00 on their 1954 Tax Levy, Carried, Gibson - McMichael—That we ap­ point William Austin as inspector for Brucellosis Control Act for the town­ ship of Howick, also a committee Of Stewart Douglas, James Lynn and P, L. Durst. Carried. Gibson - Haskins—That we appoint Elmer Kaufman to act as commission­ er on the Kreller Municipal prain. Carried. Haskins - Kaufman—That the read­ ing of the report of the Wills Drain. No. 2, be held on July 16th, 1954, at 9 o’clock, p.m. Carried. /Gibson - McMichael—That by-law No. 7 for the Township of Howick for the year 1954 as read the third time be finally passed. Carried. Kaufman - Haskins—That we give the Gorrie cemetery board a grant of $120.00. Carried. McMichael - Gibson—That we agree to sell lot 4, South Adelaide Street in the Police village of Fordwich to Har­ old Pollock for the sum of $15.00, pur­ chaser to-pay all costs for deeds, etc. Carried. Gib'son - Kaufman—That we set the following rates for township purposes, township mill rate 9 mills, relief, 1 mill. Carried. McMichael - Kaufman—That we in­ struct the road superintendent to ad­ vertise for tenders for the sale of the old Boehler bridge, tenders to be in the hands of the clerk not later than 12 o’clock noon, August 4th, 1954. Car­ ried. Gibson - Haskins—That all road ac­ counts as approved be paid. Gibson - McMichael—That the fol­ lowing accounts be paid. Carried. W. E. Those elected were: president, Geo. Gibson; vice-president, Cliff Ireland; secretary-treasurer, Shirley Edgar; sports committee, Mr. and Mrs. Allis- ter Green, and Mr. and Mrs. H. Con­ gram. Arrangements were made to hold the next picnic the 3rd Saturday in June in Gorrie Park.
