THE VOICE OF TEMPERANO1Q Some food for thought-facts, glean ed from here and there. The sales of brewery products in Canada for 1952 were nearly twice the figures for 1942. Ten carloads of ale, carrying 400,000 pints, have been shipped from a Lon don brewery within two years, as a gift to Canadians serving in Korea and Europe. Carling’s Brewery Ltd., sent second gifts to Canadians serving jn armed forces outside of Canada. It was 6000 bottles of red cap ale for use of H.M.C. ships in Korean waters. A representative of the House of Sea gram stated last September that his firm is spending $2 million annually to “secure pecorum in the manufact ure, distribution and consumption” of their product. Liquor dealers at all levels continue their well-planned ef forts to hide the end product of their business by glamorous presentation of the first impact of alcoholic bever ages on social situations. A significant action, suggestive of their concern about avoiding controversy, was the sending of a letter withdrawing schol arships offered to the Toronto Board of Education. Final item—A.A.
