D. A. Currie led in the re­ sponsive reading and gave the medi­ tation talk and the roll call was ans­ wered by characteristics of Jonah. All repeated the Lord’s prayer in uni- sun, Mrs. Robert Ross had charge of the topic, '‘Communists in China”- from the study book, "Where’ere the Sun”, Mrs. John Craig Jed in prayer for the success of the missionaries and their work and a debate, handled in the study book, "Voyage of Dis­ covery” proved interesting, Mrs. jDaw-t pon Craig and Mrs. James McInnis took the affirmati ve and Mrs. John­ ston Conn and Mrs. Albert Walters, the negative stand. A discussion fol­ lowed on whether or not it was wiser to take the children and educate them in children’s homes or to have them wLgo to one school as in our country. W Mrs. Wallace Conn led in the Glad Tidings prayer. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Wallace Conn. Mrs. McInnis closed the meet­ ing with prayer, Lunch was served and a social time spent. United Church W.M.S. The monthly meeting of the W-M.S. of the United Church was held in the church on Wednesday of last week With the president, Mrs. James Fal­ coner, presiding, Mrs, IMEillan Moore read the Scripture lesson and Mrs, J, D. Beecroft gave the meditation on "What it means to be a Christian in today’s strange world” and stressed that Christians were preaching the Gospel by their lives each day. Mrs. E. H. Groskorth led in prayer and Mrs. Ezra Scholtz and Mrs, • Ernest Casemore then gave their reports of the recent W.M.S, Presbyterial. held at Seaforth, They told the ladies of the WMS, Library of books on mission’- ary work, that is free to any society who requests to use it, Mr. Falconer closed the meeting with prayer. The next meeting will be the quarterly tea, Brick W, M. S. The WMS of Brick church met last Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Mason Robinson with eighteen ladies in at­ tendance. Mrs. Frank Thompson pre­ sided. Mrs. Alex Leaver read the Scripture lesson. Mrs, Thompson led in prayer and Mrs. C. D. Cox gave the medita­ tion talk. Mrs. Frank Thompson, Mrs. Norman Coultes and Mrs. Herson Ir­ win led in a dicussion of the mission­ ary topic on Literacy. Mrs, Cecil Coul­ tes gave a splendid report of the re­ cent Presbyterian WMS at Seaforth. Mrs. Cox closed the meeting with prayer. Mr, and Mrs, John Craig and many Culross friends attended the funeral of the late Walter Marshall, held from the Prebyterian Church, Teeswater, on Sunday to the Teeswater cemetery. East Wawanosh Currie families re­ port that it is one hundred years next week since their grandfathers, Robert David and John Currie came from Dumfrieshire, Scotland and took up the forest farms at. the north of E< Wawanpsh, They took another farm for their brother, Jim, who was sick at the time and unable to come. The families are planning a re-union in August. Mr. and Mrs. James Falconer and Lois spent Monday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Vincent, of Au­ burn. v Last Wednesday forenoon, when Mr, and Mrs, Gordon Rintoul were in the kitchen of their home they heard a crash at their front door and on in­ vestigating they found that a shot had come though the glass and shat­ tered the panel pane, It also knocked sqme plaster off the wall in front. Many will be interested in the mar­ riage in St, Catharines this Saturday morning of Mary Elizabeth Scobie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Sco­ bie, of St. Catharines, and Patrick James MacMillan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe MacMillan of Lucknow, Mr. and Mrs. Mock of Listowel, spent Sunday at the home of his sis­ ter, Mrs, Carl Weber. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Currie and fam­ ily of Clinton, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank McConnell and children of London, visited on Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Currie of East Wawanosh. Mr. and Mrs, J. p. Beecroft spent the week-end at Toronto, Barrie, Wa- saga Beach and Owen Sound. Mr. Russell Ritchie was able to re­ turn home on Saturday from Wing­ ham1 Hospital,Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Murray and Kathleen, of Toronto, spent the week­ end at their cottage at Langside. Mrs. George Fisher and Mrs. Victor Emerson attended the district annual meeting at Belgrave on Wednesday, and on Thursday attended the execu­ tive meeting of the Women’s Institute at Paisley, where representatives from North, East and South Bruce, made plans for a museum. The ladies from this district plan to attend the district annual meeting in Lucknow on Wed­ nesday, where Miss Audrey Specer, from the department, Will be the speaker. National Film Board pictures will be shown in the Memorial Hall here next Wednesday evening. Everyone should take advantage of these educa­ tional pictures. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Mason and baby Roger, of Lucan, Miss Lois Mason and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Mason, Wingham, spent Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Mason. Mr. and Mrs. Levi Bieman and children, visited on Suriday with Mr. and Mrs. Ted Tschirhart of Waterloo. Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Anderson and family, of Hensail, visited on Sun­ day with Mr, and Mrs. Kenneth Mas­ on. The Dungannon bus took a load of grown-ups and children from Fordyce school section to Niagara Falls on Friday last. The teacher, Ross Erring- ton and his wife accompanied them. Mrs. Levi Bieman and children vis­ ited on Saturday with her parents, Mr, and Mrs. Harry MacKay, of Walker­ ton. Mrs. Mary Galbraith*, of Detroit, spent the week-end with her sister, Mrs. McRitchie and Mr. Jim Currie, of E. Wawanosh. Mrs. Galbraith had motored with Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Currie of Toronto, to Jacksonville, Florida, and returned home by plane to Detroit. Mr. Thos. Hill of Kinjoss, has been a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, during the past week, and Ml and Mrs. Wilfred Caslick and Mrs. Wallace Conn were in London on Saturday and Mr* and Mrs, Gordon Scott, Ripley, Mrs. Earl Caslick and Mr. and Mrs- Russell Ross and Wm, Caslick, were there on Sunday, Mr, Gordon McBurney arid Ronald, have been laid up during the past week with mumps, Miss Erma Forester has also been a Victim of mumps this week-end. Mr, Walter Bell of St, Marys, was in the village one day last week and reported that their little daughter, Heather Lee had met With a painful accident. She climbed on the open oven door of the electric stove during preparations for dinner and tipped the stove over. She was badly burned by the food that had slipped frpin the stove to the floor, necessitating graft­ ing of skin. Mr. and Mrs. Thos. O’Malley, Lynn and Kathleen, were in London on Tuesday last, Quite a few from this district at­ tended the Trade Fair in Blyth on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Barbour of Fordyce, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ben McClenaghan, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Leeson and son, Bobby, of Nanaimo, are coming home by plane next week and will ar­ rive, in London on Wednesday. Mrs. Mayme'Menefee, of Oklahoma City, has been visiting at the home of her brother, Mr. Myles McMillan, and with other McMillan families in Kinloss and Lucknow, Mrs. Menefee was in London last week attending graduation exercises in St. Joseph’s Hospital, where her niece, Patricia MacMillan, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John MacMillan and Gail MacMillan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe MacMillan, of Lucknow, were among those graduating. Mrs. Menefee herself graduated there forty years ago. Many in this district will extend congratulations to- the girls from this community. Many; in this district will be inter­ ested to know that Mr. Garnet Far­ rier has composed and written the music for the song “Just Remember”, and has had it copyrighted recently at Westminster, B. C. We congratu­ late Mr. Farrier, and will expect to hear of more songs from this capable musician. Mrs. Wm. Field, of Wingham, and Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Beecroft were in Toronto on Saturday attending the marriage of Lillian Mary, daughter of Mrs. Edward Browning and the late Mr. Browning, and Donald George- Ewen, son of Mr. Ewen o'f Toronto and the late Mrs. Ewen. The marriage was solemnized by Rev. Victor Levan in Deer Park United Church at 3 p.m. and over 100 guests attended the recep­ tion held in St, Hilda’s College, Devon­ shire Place. The happy couple left on Sunday by plane from Malton airport to spend two weeks in Bermuda. Mrs. Ewen is a graduate of Toronto Uni­ verity. Miss Winnifred Farrier of Toronto, and her friends, Miss Edith Kerscad- don, Miss Thelma Hayes and Miss Gladys Sage, all of'Toronto, spent the week-end with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Fairrier. The young people of the Young Adult Group of the United Church, held their social evening in the school room of the church last Tuesday even­ ing.
