Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Harkness .were
host and hostess to the January meet
ing of the McIntosh Friendship Club
They were assisted by Mr. and Mrs,
Cameron Taylor.
The president conducted the devo
tions. Mrs, Taylor led in prayer and
Cameron had a Bible contest which
was very well responded to.
It was moved in the business dis
cussion to draw up a program and a
committee was left in charge. It was
also decided to have a skating party
the same night as the Young People.
A card of sympathy was signed by
all members present, to send to Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Ferguson, bereaved
members, in the loss of Mrs. Fergu
son’s mother.
Robert Harkness then showed mov
ing pictures of people around the
community and his own family, which
he had taken himself. They were
very good and were enjoyed by all.
A game of crokinole was then play
ed. Winners were given prizes
both contest and game. A very
licious lunch was served. z
Allan White extended a vote
thanks to the committee in charge
for a much enjoyed evening.

helpful meeting to a close.

U.C. Annual Meeting
The annual meeting of the Belmore
United Church was held in the church
on Tuesday afternoon with a fair at
tendance. Mr. West was chairman
and Mr. R. Rutherford acted as sec
retary for the meeting.
The treasurer’s report was given by
the treasurer, Wilfred Johann, show
ing an increase in givings over last
year. The Sunday School report was
read by Murray Mulvey and was very
gratifying; A Happy Helpers’ Mission
Band has been organized with a mem
bership of' 23. Mrs. Fred Doubledee
gave the Mission Band report.
Mrs. T. Abraham read the W.M.S.
report which showed a balance on
hand. Murray Mulvey gave’ the' Y.P.U.
report, a newly organized group which
is providing training and enjoyment
for the members. Three new members
were elected to the board of stewards,
namely, Raymond Gowdy, John Ruth
erford and Walter Horton. All other
officers were re-elected.
A vote of thanks was tendered Mr.
and Mrs. West for their work in
printing the reports and for all the
extras they have undertaken, since
coming to us. Mr.'West closed the'

Monday. A rink skipped by Clark

winning electric tea kettles as prizes.

Plan Skating Party
The Belmore-Mclntosh Y.P.U, met
on Thursday at 8.30. Velma Busby
conducted the first part of the meet
ing, John Rutherford read the Scrip
ture and Velma led in prayer. Min
utes of the last meeting were read
and approved. It was decided to unite
with the Friendship Club and engage
the Belmore Arena for a skating party
on January 28th, with refreshments
at the arena afterwards.
Murray and Bill Mulvey
veners, their topic being,
and community service,
prepared a number of sheets of paper
with questions for discussion. The
young people divided into three groups
and thoroughly discussed the ques
tions. (1) What do you think of Sun
day sports? (2) Is gambling ever jus
tifiable? (3) Should a Christian take
part in politics? Some very interest
ing answers were given.
The members felt that commercial
ized Sunday sport was un-Christian
and any sport making others work
was wrong. Gambling was never jus
tifiable. If the end justifies the means
why not rob a bank for a good cause,
as the quickest way of getting the
money needed?. Yes, a Christian
should feel that the very finest char
acters are needed in the field of poli
tics.
A few games brought a very suc-
essful evening to a close. The Mizpah
benediction was repeated in unison.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Douglas and
Wayne visited on Sunday evening with
Mr. and Mrs. W. King, of Morris.
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Cathers were
guests on Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. A.
Davidson.
