Mrs. Fred Clarke, of Amherstburg, spent last week with her sister, Miss Anna iMay Carrick, who returned from Wingham Hospital on Monday last, Mr. and Miss Whisett, of Toronto, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. J. J. McGee. . ' Mrs. A. Emerson and Miss Lila spent Sunday at Blyth with the form­ er’s daughter, Mrs. John Haggitt. Mrs. Emerson held a very successful sale of the fields of grain last Thursday and realized $8 an acre for some fields higher in value. The W.M.S. of the United attended a meeting at Brick on Thursday last when Mrs. McKen­ zie, formerly president of the W.M.S. Presbyterial, living at Seaforth, and now of Toronto, was present, also the W.M.S. of Belgrave. Mrs. McKenzie gave a very inspirational address on the \v^rk of the W.M.S., its need for workers, money, and its great value in this country. Mrs. Frank Thompson, president of the Brick W.M.S., had charge of the meeting. Lunch was served and a social half-hour was en­ joyed by all. Rev. and Mrs. W. J. Watt and fam­ ily spent Sunday at Belgrave with Mr. Harry McClenaghan and family. Miss Isabel Fox, Reg. N., who has been at Wroxeter for the past few weeks, spent Saturday with her moth­ er, Mrs. A. Fox. Invitations are out this week for the reception to be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben McClenaghan this Thursday evening. Rev. Mr. Leggatt, of Norval and Bruce Beach, had charge of the serv­ ices in the Presbyterian Churches here on Sunday. Master Jimmie Cane and little Dor­ othy Ashby, of Toronto, have been .visiting at the home of his uncle, Mr. HerSon Irwin, during the past week, :and Audrey Irwin spent last week with JBetty Benton of .Toronto. The summer meeting of the W.M.S. of the Presbyterian Church was held on Thursday last at the home of Mrs. Robt. Mowbray, with the president, Miss Merle Wilson, in charge. Miss Annie Laidlaw read the Scripture les­ son, and Mrs. J. Craig led in prayer. Miss Velma Scott and Mrs. Robt. Ross sang “I’ll Go Where You Want Mfe To Go,” Mrs, W. J. Coulter gave a missionary reading and Mrs, J. Laid­ law led in prayer. The members of the Mission Band sang a number and Walter Elliott gave a reading. The special speaker was Miss Dorothy Douglas of Lucknow, who gave an in­ teresting talk on her work in Formosa. Miss Douglas is slated to leave for Formosa again on August 10th, and the people of this community join in wishing her success in her work, A special vote of thanks was tendered to her and also to Mrs. Mowbray. Lunch was served and a social time enjoyed by all. Mr. Robert Purdon had three of his cows killed by lightning in the storm of Monday morning, and (Mr. Jas. Cur­ ran had the chimney of his house hit. Mr. Chas. Robinson started out on Tuesday with his threshing machine at Aldin Purdon’s, with Jas. McGee and Jas. Curran assisting him for the season. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Laidlaw arnd Ivan spent Sunday at the home of Min Harry McClenaghan, Belgrave. Mrs. Robt. Mitchell, Wingham, is visiting this week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gordon Elliott. Mrs. Kirk, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Mrs. R. Yule and Berna accompan­ ied Mr. Yule to Paisley on Sunday and will spend a week or so with him there while he is acting as relieving agent at the C.N.R. station. Miss Nora Wheeler, London, spent the week-end at her home here, Rev. J. B. and Mrs. Townend, of Princeton, and Miss Kay Townend of London, spent Sunday with Belgrave friends. We are sorry to know that Mr. C. Wilkinson is on the sick list, staying with Mrs. Carl Proctor. Magistrate Jefp and Mrs. Jefp, of Barrie, were guests of Mrs. Brandon one day last week. Mrs. H. Adams is confined to her home. We hope to see her around again soon. Her sister is staying with her. W. C. Geddes, of Chatham, is holi­ daying with his parents, Mr, and Mrs. W. J. Geddes. Memorial Service Rev, F. G. Fowler conducted an im­ pressive memorial service * in Knox Presbyterian Church on Sunday morn­ ing for the Rev. W. J. West,*M,A., who passed away in Victoria Hospital, London, on Thursday, and who min­ ister to the congregations of Bluevale and Eadies from 1897 - 1912. Mr. Fowler toolc for his text “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” He spoke of the deceased as one who had heard and obeyed that command, and by so doing had been the means of leading many into the Christian life and work of the church. The Choir sang "I Know That God’s Tomorrow Will Be Better Than Today” Rev. F. G. Fowler is having his va­ cation during the month of August. Next Sunday, 'August 3rd, Rev. J. E. Taylor, of Cranbrook and Ethel, will occupy the pulpit in Knox Presbyter­ ian Church. L. O. L. Decoration The L.O.L. No. 766 held the annual decoration service at the cemetery on Sunday afternoon with Bro. Earl Hamilton ,W.M., in charge of the ser­ vice. Rev. C. Tavener, of the United Church, read the Scripture passage and offered prayer. The names of the departed members were-read by Bro. Ross Smith. The guest speaker was Rev. E. O. Gallaher, rector of the An­ glican Church, Wingham. He spoke on “Recollections, Decorations and Resolutions.” The service closed with singing the National Anthem. Miss Eliza Bravenor, of Toronto, is visiting with Mr. and Mts, Arthur Shaw and other, relatives. Russel Barnard, R.C.A.F,,. was home from Manning Pool, Toronto, and spent the week-end with his- parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Barnard, Miss F. M. Cochoran, of Vancouver, B.C., was a recent visitor with. Mrs. Mary Robertson and Miss Martha Fraser. Miss. Lois Elliott, nurse-in-training at the Woman’s Coltege Hospital, .Tor­ onto, is spending hec vacation with, her parents, Mr. and M-rsv Raymond EL Hott. Mr., and; Mrs. Harry Stowe and Mr. R. G. The occasion was veiling of a clock in memory M. A. Wheeler, who passed.' away in March'. Mrs, Wheeler, who was al­ most 86 years of age, had. been a very faithful member of the Sunday School and attended until only a few months previous to her death. Before her death she had made provision for a clock to be bought for the Sunday School, Rev. Wal­ lace will be glad to know he is im­ proving slowly1 and hope it may con­ tinue. • A memorial service was conducted in Eadies Church on Sunday in mem­ ory of the late Rev. Mr. West, who was a former pastor. iMrs. Clarence Snelling, of Listowel, spent last week with her sister, Mrs. Allan McGill. Mrs. George Shaw and Mr. Arno Mitcalfe, of Toronto, spent the week­ end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Metcalfe, also Mr. and Mrs. Mel­ ville Martin, were recent visitors with their parents. Mr. Joseph Maine and family, Tor­ onto, called on Mr. and Mrs. Chester Dunkin recently and renewed other acquaintances on the tenth. A series of evangelistic meetings were closed Friday evening. All en­ joyed Mr. Summers’ speaking and the music. The missionary meeting of the Unit­ ed Church will be held at the home of Mrs. Thomas Abaraham Wednes­ day afternoon. Ladies from all directions attended the quilting at Lane’s School Tues­ day afternoon. Fred Davidson, the well-driller from Wingham, is at present drilling a well for Jas. B. Dickson. He has several other jobs on the town line. This dry weather is hard on the water supply. Rev. Mr. Storey, a returned mission­ ary from South America, will show over a hundred slides of that country, and give an address in the Presbyter­ ian Church Thursday night, this week, at 8.30 o’clock. A silver collection will be taken for his work. Little Mr. McKee, from Galt, is holidaying with friends here. Mrs. Jo­ seph’Hall, of Toronto is visiting with Mrs. Mulvey, and a friend from Tor­ onto at the Hunkin home. It is with regret that we learn that Thomas Abraham’s condition has made it necessary for him to go to Wingham Hospital for treatment.
