Miss Gladys Weir of Wroxeter, spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E, Weir, The Union School will hold its Xmas concert on Friday night, De­ cember 20th in the school room, The S. S, will hold its Xmas entertainment on Monday night, December 23rd in the church here. A good programme is being presented. Mrs, James Harris is at present not enjoying the best of health -being con­ fined to her bed at present, We hope to see her all right soon again, The Woman's Association met on Wednesday, December 11th, in the class room of the church with nine members present. Following the de­ votional period, Mrs. W. Dane was elected to preside for the election of officers with the following results. President—Mrs. W. Cathers was re­ elected. 1st Vice-Pres.,—Mrs. W. Five members pres­ ent. After a short worship service in which. each one read a part of the Christmas story, election of officers for 1941 was proceeded with and the following officers chosen. The,meeting was brought to a close with prayer by Mrs. Gowdy after which the members spent a short time on practice of a number for the Xmas entertainment. The members disper­ sed after sharing a social half hour over the tea cups. The meet­ ing was in charge 'of Mrs. W. Dow's group. Mts. S. Snell conducted an im­ pressive Christmas worship period and Mrs. Dow dealt with the missionary programme, the theme of which was | “Couriers of the Cross in China.” The ’ president, Mrs. F. Thompson, con­ ducted the business. Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. H. Irwin and Mrs. George Coul- tes were appointed a committee to plan, if possible, for a -crokinole soc­ ial to be held during the Christmas holidays. Rev. J. B. Wightman. JAMESTOWN WESTFIELD West-The annual meeting of the field United Sabbath School was held on Friday, December 13th, with Rev. H. C. Wilson in charge. The meeting- opened by singing Take the Name of Jesus with You. Rev. H. C. Wilson read the Scripture lesson from St. Matt. 5th chapter. Mr. Wm. Walden led in prayer. Mr. Norman McDowell was appointed secretary for the meet­ ing. Nominations were by open vote. Nominations for Superintendent were: Norman McDowell and W. F. Camp­ bell. Mr. Campbell wishing to retire after a term o£ 13 years. Norman Mc- dowell was elected with W. F. Camp­ bell and Wm. Walden as assistants. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Smith and children, visited on Sunday with friends at Ethel. The Ladies’ Aid of Roe’s Church held their December meeting at the home of Mrs. Dennis. Mrs. Sellars took the meeting as usual. Cook render­ ed a duet, "No Room in the Inn.” Mr, and Mrs. Gordon Smith and Babe and Miss Jean McDowell of Goderich, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. J. L. McDowell. Camp- BLUEVALE The Y. P. U. of the United Church har charge of the Sunday evening service with Miss Emma Johnston presiding. The scripture lesson was read by Flemming Johnston and Rev, C. Tavener offered prayer. Duncan Stewart gave a helpful talk having as his subject “Youth’s Job”. Smith Rob­ ertson, Bill Peacock, Carl Johnston, Ross Smith, Duncan Stewart and 'Geo. Johnston rendered a vocal selection. Mrs. Lollow received word this week of the death of her father, John Francis at Seven Oakes, England, in his 82nd year. Mr. Francis started when a young man in the city gas department and was with the depart­ ment until he retired some years ago due to failing eyesight. WROXETER M. A. the the the the Young People’s Union Maxine White presided over the Y. P. U. meeting in the United Church school room (Monday evening when 32 were in attendance. The meeting opened with the hymn “Guide me, O Tliou great Jehovah” with prayer by Jean MacDonald, followed by the Lord’s Prayer in unison. The Scrip­ ture lesson, taken from Isaiah, 56th chapter, was read by Vera Zurbrigg. “O Master, let me walk with Thee” was the second hymn. Rev. A. M. Grant gave an address on “Ideal Hu­ man Team Work”. Jack MacLean presided over the, business period and a nominating committee was appoint­ ed for next year’s office-holders. Plans were also made for a sleighing party at next meeting. The hymn “Jesus calls us o’er the tumult” and the Miz­ pah benediction brought the meeting to a close. Women’s Missionary Society The December meeting of the W. M. S. was held on Thursday of last week at the home of Mrs. A. Grant. The president, Mrs. G. Wearring, presided and conducted devotional period, opening with Christmas Carol “It Came Upon Midnight Clear” and reading for Scripture lesson the story of the birth of Christ, taken from St. Matthew, 2nd chapter. Several members took part in the programme. Mrs. Knight read a poem “The Soldier’s Creed.” Mrs. Howes read a letter from a 16- ycar-old girl in England. Mrs. Cook gave a reading on Stewardship. Mrs. Wearring took as a base for her re­ marks a verse “Renew a right spirit within us,” followed by a short pray­ er on the same theme by Mrs. W. A. Sawtelb “The First Noel” was sung, also the hymn and prayer for peace. Mrs. Grant served refreshments and a social hour was enjoyed. Red Cross Shipment The local Red Cross chapter made a shipment to headquarters last week, as follows; 14 suits pyjamas, 16 scarv­ es, 2 turtle-neck sweaters, 5 U-neck sweaters, 3 helmets, 1 pair rifle mitts, 12 pair whole mitts,. 6 pairs gloves, 60 pairs socks, 11 seaman’s stockings. Mrs. Archie McMichael was the guest of Mrs. David Hamilton, Wing­ ham, a couple of .days last week. Mrs. Fred Kitchen is at present vis- iting Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Berkinshaw and other friends in Toronto. There passed away at her home on Howick St., Saturday evening, after many years being confined to her home a highly respected citizen in the person of Mrs. James Edgar in her 78th year.
