Court Settles Marriage Case 3 “I am glad that the husband knew ’ of the previous marriage oi tins wo­ man when he married her. However, I am not so sure that both did not know the meaning of ‘spinster’ when the license was taken out. This was the summing up of Magistrate J. A. Makins as he convicted Mrs. Emma Tremblay of perjury in falsely swear­ ing to an affidavit when taking out a license to marry George Hoffman on April 19,'last. The two went through a form of marriage on .Tune 6th of this year. Evidence showed that the wo­ man had married Joseph Tremblay at Goderich on Dec. 4th, 1916. Mrs. Tremblay was given suspended sent­ ence on payment of court costs. The amount was promptly paid by Hoff­ man, who was at her side throughout the proceedings and testified on her fractured skulk He was admitted to]behalf, Clinton Public Hospital, where his! condition is regarded as critical. JOHN BISTER HAROLD PICKET An outstanding feature nt the International Plowing Match, held nt St. Thomas this year, was the event sponsored by Salads Tea Company. The big “Salada" Special class, open to all plowmen who had qualified at branch matches and to all winners of first prices in the open Jointer classes at International Matches from and including 1937, brought together the top rank plowmen of the Province and attracted wide attention. The first and second prices are cold and silver medals and an extensive trip to include areas of agricultural interest. Twelve cash prices ranging from §25.03 to $5.00 were also awarded for this event.
