Mr. and Mrs. Ben McClenaghan and family visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jones, Clinton. Mrs. Moffatt and Mrs. Moore ac­ companied Mrs. Fells and son, Elliot, of Wingham, on Thursday last and visited at the home of Mrs. Earle Mills, of Walton. This community extends sincere sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Mason and family, of Westfield, in their bereavement. Mrs. Mason was formerly Miss Ethel Clow, daughter of Mrs. Clow in the village, and MrS. Clow has been with her this week. Mr. and Mrs. Neil iMackay, of Tor­ onto, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Ross and son, Ronald, of Teeswater, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Moore on Sunday. Mrs. Jas. Cornelius and Mr. and Mrs. Amos Cornelius spent Sunday with the former’s granddaughter, Mrs. Will Redmond, of St. Augustine. Miss Muriel Patterson, of Kapus- kasing, visited for a few days last week with her grandmother, Mrs. W. Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. John Kilpatrick and family, of Lucknow, spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Robinson, and Miss Susan Kilpatrick visited with Mr. and Mrs. Albert«Pat- terson. Mjss Mabel Purdon has been very ill,over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cameron, of Ashfield, and Mr. Jas. Cameron, of Lanark, visited there on Sunday. Quite a number of the young peo­ ple of the community attended the re­ ception at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Purdon on Friday night, in hon­ our of. their son, Will, and his bride. Sunday was visiting day at the Un­ ited Church with services withdrawn.. Quite a number took advantage of the occasion and took their families to the lake. Douglas Black, of Blyth. Herb Bur- chill, Rellison Falconer, Ted McClen­ aghan, and Clifford. Purdon spent the week-end at Niagara Falls and Tor­ onto. Misses Annie and Mary Laidlaw in­ vited their relatives and neighbours on Friday afternoon to come to a quilt­ ing of two quilts they had made for the Red Cross Society. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Naylor, of Luck­ now, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Newman. Miss Winnifred Farrier and Miss Gladys Fage, of Barrie, are holiday­ ing at Windemere, near Bracebridge. Miss Hannah Wilson of Bay City, Mich., and Miss Frances Wilson, of Wingham, visited over the week-end with Mrs. Jas. Wilson and family. Gillespie, and Mrs. John Gillespie is spending this week there, while Mrs. Joe Marks, of Lon­ don, and her neice, Miss Ruth Rus­ sel, of Toronto, are holidaying at the home of Mr. and Mrs,- J, G, Gillespie. Mr, and Mrs, Frank Paterson and family, Detroit, are holidaying at the home of his father, Mr, F, McK. Pat­ erson, and Scott Paterson visited there last week also. The village ladies on Monday were quilting a’Dresden quilt, donated b’y Mrs. A. McKenzie .to the Red Cross Society, and tickets will be sold on it and a pair of pillows that have been donated. Miss Doris McClenaghan is in Kin­ cardine with Mrs, Leaky, who has been ill at the home of her sister, Miss Mary Patetrson, for the past few weeks. ‘ Miss Dorothy King, R.N., of the Ontario Hospital, Cobourg. is spend­ ing two weeks with her mother, Mrs. George King. Miss Marion Brooks, of Grimsby, is spading this week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Falconer, Mrs. Baker and son, and Mrs. Hog­ an and two sons, of Sudbury, spent a day last week with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Waddell. Taylor spent the week-end at Toronto with her sister, Mrs. For­ sythe. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tiffin, Mr. and Mrs. Orval Tiffin, Joe and Dan, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Al­ ton. of Ashfield. Mr. and Mrs. Jas. St. Marie, Cecelia and Joe, spent the week-end in Lon­ don at the home of her brother, Mr. Michael Gillen. Miss Leah Currie, of Toronto, is spending this week with her sister, Mrs. Russel Gaunt. Mr. Geoge Haigh,. of Stratford, vis­ ited on Sunday at the home of his sis­ ter, Mrs. Robert J. Ross. When working from the granary of his barn on Con. 2, Kinloss, over a week ago, Mr. James Ross had the misfortune to slip off and drop to the floor between the granary wall and a load of hay. Mr. Ross, a man of 83 years,, had gone'up to oil a pulley. He suffered a broken rib and a severe jar to his neck. He spent a. week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mac­ Donald, of Holyrood, and is again back on the job. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Pollock at­ tended a Pollock' family picnic at Pine River on Saturday and spent the week-end with relatives there and at Ripley. Harold* Gaunt spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Robb at Goder­ ich. Mrs. Thos. Gaunt has been quite ill during the past week. Miss Bertha Mackay, of Toronto, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hector Mackay. Mrs. James Curran and her infant son, returned home from Wingham Hospital on Sunday. j The summer social meeting of the W. M. S. of the Presbyterian Church ( was held in Thursday, July 25 at the home of Mrs. Albert McQuillan with ladies from Calvin and Langside W. . M. S. present.. The President, Mrs. J. Pollick had charge of the meeting. After the reading of the Scripture les­ son, Mrs. Fred Davidson sang, “A ( little talk with Jesus”, to her own ac­ companiment the harp. Mary Cau­ tion gave a reading, Velma Scott and Janet Craig sang, There were ninety and. Nine”, and a season of prayer followed. Miss Agnes Mackay gave a talk on Psalm 23, and Mrs. A. Pat terson led in prayer for the church and. its work. Mrs. R.. J. Ross led in prayer for the society and mission work. Mrs. R. Mowbray gave a taik on “The Missionary Imperative”, and Miss Merle Wilson gave .a reading, “The Call of the Hour”. Mrs. W. J. Coulter led in prayer for the King and Country and fighting forces. Mrs. K. McLean of Wingham was the guest speaker for the occassion and brought a splendid report of the Provincial Missionary meeting, held at Toronto. After which the President closed the meeting with prayer. Lunch was served and a social time enjoyed by all. Quite a number of the young people of the United Church attended the summer meeting of the Y. P. U. of the St Helens church last Tues­ day night. The Camp-fire meeting Was interrupted by the rising of the high wind, so the meeting proceeded ’ by gas light on the lawn at the manse. A splendid program was given with Rev. W. J. Watt giving an interest­ ing and instructive talk to the as­ sembled young folk. Miss Genevieve Watt and Mr* E. Rice had charge of the recreation period that followed and all enjoyed the games and con­ tests on the lavm and the cake and iee-ercath that folowed. L BELGRAVE „ Sunday School Held Picnic The Sunday School of Knox United Church held. its. annual picnic on Sat­ urday afternoon at the farm of Mr. Harry McClenaghan just north of the village.. There was a good attendance present. A softball game between two girls teams proved very enjoyable. The young men defeated the married men in a game of softball by a small margin. Races for all followed and were keenly contested. A picnic lunch followed and a pleasant afternoon was brought to a close. Triple V Class Conducted Services The services at Brick and Knox United Churches were taken by the members of the Triple V Bible Class on Sunday. The class also formed the choir and lead in the service of song, also singing an anthem.. Several mem­ bers of the class.took part under the leadership of Harold Vincent, presi­ dent of the class. The address “A Challenge to Service” was given by George Michie. There will be no. ser­ vices next Sunday and the Excelsior Girls’ class will have charge .of the services on Sunday, August 11th. The cutting of fall wheat crop start­ ed on Saturday and reports afe that .the crops is very good. Erie Allen of Toronto is visiting with Mr. and Mrs. John M. Coultes.
