Gordon Rintoul of Toronto, visited on Monday with his uncle, Mr. Wm. Purdon and other relatives in this community and wtih Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Purdon of St. Helens on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Purdon and family were with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Anderson of St. Helens, who celebrated the fiftieth anniver­ sary of their wedding on Monday ev­ ening. Gaunt pn Sunday. The last meting of the Y.P.U. of the United Church for the spring term was held on Monday night with the President, Mrs, Jas. Falconer in charge. The meeting opened with a song service, followed by the call to worship, by the President, Mr, Clar­ ence McClenaghan read the scripture lesson and Mr. H. Pollock had charge of the meditation period., Mrs. J, D. Beecroft led in prayer. Mrs. W, R, Farjrer played a piano solo, and Miss Muriel Watt gave an interesting read­ ing. Misses A, M'. Carrick and Susan Carrick sang a duet, and Mrs. H. Sparling gave a reading on “Common Things’’. Miss Agnes Gillespie play­ ed a piano solo. The President then spoke to Rev, and Mrs. Wright, voic­ ing the appreciation of his tireless work for the Y. P. U. and when they were called to the front, presented them with a beautiful linen tablecloth as a reriiembrance from the society. Mr. Wright, in thanking the young folks, told of the encouraging work done by the Y. P. U. for the church, and spoke of the helpfulness and will­ ingness of the group to help at all times, and the ensuing training each was receiving. Following the mizpah benediction, all sang, God be with you. till we meet again. The yo.ung people presented their play at Port Albert on Wednesday night, with Mrs. Spar­ ling and J. D. Beecroft singing be­ tween acts. >Mr. Jack Norman, who graduated last month from Toronto University, spent the week-end at the home of his aunt, Mrs. Jas. Wilson. Miss A. M. The marirage of Marie C, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Hogan of Ashfield, and! John Angus Kennedy, son of the late Mr. and, Mrs. John Kennedy of Culross, was solemized by Rev. Rather Quigley in Kings­ bridge Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 28th. The reception was held that evening at Paramount Hall. This community welcomes the happy couple, who will reside on Con. 1, Culross. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Robinson spent a few days last week in Morris at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Cecil Wheeler. The W. Miss .Isabel Gibbs read the Scripture lesson and Miss Grace Richardson had charge of the meditation period. Mrs. J. Pollock led in prayer. Miss Catharine Mowbray gave an interesting paper on the topic, and the society made arrangements for attending the picnic of the young peole of the Presbytery at Camp Kin­ tail on Friday, June 30th. The meet­ ing was closed by repeating the Lords prayer in utiison. ,, Mr. and (Mrs. Fred Newman and children spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hendershott, of Hamilton, and Donald, Barbara and Betty Jane stayed to enjoy some holidays, The induction service for Rev. The local lads went to town in a big way in the first innings scoring 6 runs. Both teams collected seven hits. Robb spoke on lessons from the Transfiguration, at the Sun­ day morning service in the United j Church. The sacrament of the Lord’s Supper was observed. In the evening the sermon was based on the thought of God's guidance of His children on the journey of life. Mr. Robb sang a solo which was much appreciated, and spoke of his continued interest in the charge, which he is now leaving after a pastorate of six years, to serve in the United Church at Camlachie. Presentation to Rev. anl Mrs, Robb Members of the Y.P.U.- and of the Mission Circle of the United Church gathered at the parsonage on Thurs­ day, to spend the evening with Rev, A. V. Robb and Mrs. Robb before their departure for their new charge After games were played on the lawn,, George Johnston, on behalf of the young people, read an address of ap- , preciation, and Miss Daisy Holmes presented Mr. and Mrs. Robb-with a silver and crystal hors d’o-uvre tray and a silver rose bowl. Institute Class Held Summary Day-for the classes in the Refinishing of Furniture Project was held here on Friday afternoon, con­ ducted by Miss Esther A. Slicter of the Women’s Institute Branch, Tor­ onto.. The speaker examined the piec­ es of. Furniture and explained the pro­ cess.,. owing to the fact of being un­ able to-- secure screen and lantern, the illustrated address on Furniutre had to be cancelled, but the discussion proved', most helpful and instructive. Members were present from Gorrie, Wroxeter,, Brussels and Bluevale. Miss Florence Fowler was called to London, oni Sunday. Her sister-in-law, Mrs. Henry Fowler, had passed away on Saturday evening. HELENS Celebrating Golden Wedding Mr;. a.nd Mrs. Archibald Anderson, well-known, and highly respected resi­ dents ofi this- district on Monday cele­ brated. their 50th wedding annivers­ ary. It was on June 26, 1889 that Mr. Anderson and Janet McLean, daugh­ ter of the late Mr., and Mrs. Kenneth McLean, of Kinloss Township, were married, and; the: young couple start­ ed. farming, out the 13th concession of West Wawanosli otd the farm which he purchasedl from the late Alex; Stuart and where' they still reside. Mr., and! Mrs-. Anderson have three daughters, Miss Elizabeth Anderson, of Montreal; Mrs. Irwin Henry (Fran- ces).-of." B’elfast,. and! Mrs-.. Robert Pur­ don (Hazel.) of Whitechurch. They were saddened in 1908 by the death of tlieir only son, Finlay Stuart Anderson,.
