Mr. and Mrs. George Coultes and „ Mr. and Mrs. Norman Coultes, of E. Wawanosh, spent S-unday at the home of the former’s daughter, Mrs. John Gaunt. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Patten, of Lucan, spent the week-end here and Mrs. Fox who has been with them for the past two weeks, returned to her home here. Quite a number from this district attended the funeral of the late Peter •- Scott at Belgrave last Friday, and many old friends in this community extend sympathy to the bereaved wife and family. This community was surprised to hear of the death of Mr. George M. ' Robertson at his home on the 12th of East Wawanosh. He had passed away during the night and was found dead in bed. Beecroft and Florence vislthed on Saturday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Kirk, of Sea­ forth. Mrs. Creighton, of Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Kirk, of Birmingham, and Mr. Norman Kirk, of Chicago al­ so visited there over the week-end. Mr, and Mrs. Jas. Jackson and dau­ ghter, Margaret, of Auburn, visited on Sunday with Mr, and Mrs. Herb. Laidlaw and his mother, Mrs. Wm. Jackson, who spent the past week with her sister, Miss Cliristena Laidlaw, re­ turned to Auburn with them. Mr, and Mrs. John Falconer and Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Welwood of Cale­ don, are visiting here this week with Mr. and Mrs. Cecil.Falconer and Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Falconer, Successful anniversary services were held in the United Church here on Sunday with Rev. Mr. McKenzie in charge. The choir rendered special anthems, while Bert Cullimore, Wing­ ham, sang a solo “God Bless This House” in the morning, and the male quartette sang “Jesus Lover of My Soul” at night. The Y.P.U. are pre­ senting their play in the Institute Hall on Tuesday night and again at St. Helens on Thursday night at the gar­ den party there. Mrs. John Kilpatrick and children, of Lucknow, spent last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Robinson. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Robinson and children spent the week-end with re­ latives in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Sunday with Mr. and Tiffin, of Langside. - Mr. and Mrs. Sims Mrs. Jack Sims, all of Toronto, spent the week-end with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Inglis. Miss Jean Johnston, of E. Wawa­ nosh, spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Farrier. Mr. Bert Cullimore spent Sunday with Whitechurch friends. Rev. Reid Vipond and Mrs. Vipond spent the week-end at the home of the former’s sister, Mrs. Leslie' Wight­ man, and Mr. Vipond had charge of the service in Brick Church. They leave for an appointment in North­ ern Saskatchewan in the near future. ' Mrs. Bert Boyd and children, Paris, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Weaver. Mr. and Mrs. Perrie Pennington and children, of Culross, spent Sun­ day at the home of her brother, Mr. Wendell Taylor, Miss Edith McClenaghan, of Bel­ grave, is visiting this week with her cousin, Miss Mildred McClenaghan, Mrs. Robt. Mowbray, president of the W.M.S. of the Presbyterian Church, and other officers, will attend the meeting of the executive of the Maitland Presbyterial in Wingham at the home of Mrs. H, C. MacLean on Thursday. On Saturday last when the starter on the car didn’t work, Floyd Thomp­ son tried to crank it, and it back-fired striking him on the right wrist. X- rays showed that both the bones were broken and Floyd has the arm in a cast for a few weeks. Mr, and Mrs. Rhys Pollock were in Toronto on Saturday attending the Wilson-Keys wedding and spent the week-end with friends there. The young people of the Presbyter­ ian Church held a social evetiihg at the home of Mr, and Mrs, John Craig on Monday evening with a good at­ tendance. U. attended the Presbytery, picnic Held on the Summer School grounds on Saturday. Mr. Raymond Redmond visited the Forestry at Simcoe one day last week. Mr. and Mrs.-Norman Radford and family attended the Sherbrook re-un­ ion at Goderich on Saturday. A number of th'e men met at church on Thursday and repaired roof of the shed and repaired fences. Mr. Everett# Hoover, of St, Louis, Mich., visited with his uncle, Mr. W. H. Campbell and other friends, A large number from this vicinity attended the .funeral at Belgrave on Friday of the late Mr. Peter Scott. The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved family. The Young People held their meet­ ing on Wednesday evening last with 36 present. The programme was pre­ pared by Bob Henry. Mae Wight­ man led the meeting, with Graeme McDowell at the piano. The Scrip­ ture was read by Marjorie McVittie- from Titus 3rd chapter. Reading was given by Winnifred Campbell “He- Leadeth Me.” Topic on “The Moral Power of the Gospel” was given by Margaret Vincent! Piano duet was rendered by Phyllis and Violet Cook, Collection was received by James Walsh. The meeting closed with the Mizpah benediction after which a soc­ ial time was spent under the leader­ ship of Ed. McGill and John Gear. Rev. P. S, Banes, of Buxton, a for­ mer pastor, will preach the anniver­ sary services Sunday morning at 11.00 o'clock, July 2nd. RevJ Millyard is ex­ pected to preach the evening service, assisted by the pastor. Master Billie 'Buchanan had the misfortune to break both bones in his right arm on Thursday while climbing in the wood shed. The pole on which he stepped being loose, let him fall to the ground. He was taken to God­ erich by Dr. B. C. Weir where an x- ray was taken by Dr. Taylor and the arm was set by Dr. J. M. Graham, Bill was able to return home that af­ ternoon and the arm is doing nicely. Mr. and Mrs. N. G. Anderson. A number from this vicinity attend­ ed tire funeral of the late Mr. Peter Scott at the age of 15 years, she- came with her parents to West Wawanosh, to the .farm where Mr, and Mrs, Bert Taylor now reside. Mrs. Campbell health and was a great sufferer which she bore very patiently to the end, The deceased was the mother of three children, all of who have “Silver threads among the gold” as a remind­ er that they too, are nearing life’s sun­ set. S'he ran the journey of her life in 79 years, and it is a path marked with deed of kindness and cheer, Flowers* not thorns, Sunshine not shadow, did she scatter every where, with these she was lavish. Truth was the inspiration of her life and by kindness she exemplified its great worth, Among us she ranked as a wo­ men of culture, refinement, sympathy, a devoted wife and mother, and true friends. To her the struggle and bur­ den bearing of earth are ended, and we confidently trust that like one who awakes from ‘a troubled dream, she has awakened to see life’s endless morning breaking and knows herself at home, “Tired! Ah, yes! so tired dear, I shall sleep soundly tonight, With never a dream and never a fear, To wake in the morning ligjit.” Mrs. Campbell, leaves to mourn their loss, her husband, two sons, Al­ bert on the home farm, Colin, of Ot­ tawa; one daughter, Mrs. Crozier, of Crewe; one sister, Mrs. D. M. Gordon of Detroit, and eleven grand children, One brother, John A. Harrison, pre­ deceased her a few years ago. Mrs. Campbell was a devoted Chris­ tian woman, a member of the Meth­ odist, now United Church, at Donny­ brook for 64 years. She was also a member of the W.M.S. The funeral services which were held at her late homey took place on. Monday, June 19th, the pastor,, Rev.. H. C. Wilson, officiating, assisted by Rev. E. Gill, of Dungannon.. During the business- discussion it was agreed to cancel the regular July meeting. Miss Jean Elliott, who attended the Girls’ Conference at Guelph,, gave a very comprehensive1 report?. She described the different buildings where demon­ strations and lectures were held also. the1 living apartments,, dining room andl menus-..- She gave such an excel­ lent account of. the different forms of entertainment provided, for education­ al. purposes; that her listeners could almost imagine they had! been present to enjoy it.
