Following the theme of the past few months "Making Canada Christian,'” the programme was strictly Canadian. Mrs. R. Grainger and Mrs. E. W. Carson were the committee in charge and meeting opened by singing of a hymn. The call to worship was given by Mrs. Carson. .Mrs. Michael led in prayer after Psalm 72 "Our Own Can­ adian Psalm” was recited in unison. A beautiful solo “Lord for All Mankind We Pray” by Velma Lennox was en­ joyed. A short talk on Loyalty and Pat­ riotism was given by Mrs. Carson, in part she said, the strength of the na­ tion ts just as great as the character and the morale of the people, and just because we enjoy the privileges of life under the democracy of the British crown, we should guard well our heri­ tage. If we value our privileges of free speech, right to worship as we please, too lightly, we are in danger of losing it. She closed by urging the members to remember the Bible In­ junction to fear God, love the broth­ erhood and honour the King. GORRIE UNITED CHURCH W. A. The Woman’s Association of Gor­ rie United Church met at the homie of Miss Earngey, with Mrs. Toner, the president in charge. Mrs. H. Ashton took charge of the devotional part. She spoke of us all hearing our King and Queen broadcast for the last time and how pleased they were for the many receptions given them in Can­ ada. The meeting opened with the National Anthem, Mrs. Scott led in prayer. All repeated Psalm 23 for the Scripture lesson. Mrs. Galbraith gave a reading. A hymn was sung. Mrs. Toner took charge of business. Min­ utes were adopted as read. The meeting closed with the hymn “Jesus is tenderly calling" and the Benediction. Cath- ers, Mrs. Watt, Mrs. Grainger, Mrs. A. L. Stephens and Miss Evelyn Dane each telling the story of one chapter in the book. The hymn “Land of our birth” was sung. The roll call was answered by fifteen members, most of them giving their thought on the Royal visit to .Canada. Some very entertaining thoughts were given. The Temper­ ance Sec., Mrs. Watt, gave a paper deploring advertising of liquor in Our papers today, filling the minds of out- young people. After usual business was transacted the meeting closed with the Mizpah benediction. A soc­ ial hour was spent when the hostess served a delightful lunch of ice cream. Hastie - Fleming A very pretty wedding was solem­ nized on Saturday, June 17th, at Dav­ enport Road United Church in Toron­ to, when Margaret N. Fleming’, dau­ ghter of Mr. and Mrs. James Flem­ ing, became the bride of Walker (Doney) Hastie, son of Mrs. and the late Mr. Robert Hastie, of Gorrie. Rev. A. J. Hilto1 performed the cere­ mony, and the church was prettily de­ corated with pink and white peonies. William Palmateer was organist and Mrs. Palmateer was soloist. The bride, given in marriage by her father, looked lovely in a gown of white corded taffeta with high neck- [ line, leg-o’-mutton sleeves pointed at' wrist, high waistline, and had tiny ■ covered buttons from the neckline be-' low the waist at the back of dress and a very full skirt. A finger-tip em-' broidered veil fell from a Mary Queen of Scots hat, and the bridal bouquet was a cascade of deep red roses. She was attended by Betty Bruce, maid of honor, and little Arlene Hastie, 3- year-old niece of the groom made a charming flower girl. Miss Bruce’s gown was of yellow taffeta on Prin­ cess lines, sweetheart neckline and short puffed sleeves. She also wore a yellow taffeta doll’s hat, long yellow lace gloves, and -carried a bouquet of roses. Little Arlene’s gown was. of •water lily green taffeta, square neck­ line and shirred front and back from neckline to waist. Her halo hat was of small mixed flowers and she ear­ ned a nosegay of pink rosebuds. Howfii'^ Binkley was best man and the ushers Wihv Fleming, bro­ ther of the bride, and Wilson Flem­ ing, her cousin. ■ ■; „. ALL'BRaN At a reception held at the Town House, Bloor and Bay, the bribe’s mo­ ther received in a gray sheer packet frock with black accessories and cor­ sage of pink roses. She was assisted by the mother of the groom in a flow­ ered silk gown with purple velvet jac­ ket, white accessories and corsage of yellow roses. The couple left on a trip to points in the United States, the bride donn­ ing a powder blue dress, black hat with blue ribbon, black accessories, also black nubby wood coat and stone martin furs. EARL RE UNION The annual re-union of the Earl family was held in Victoria Park, Gor­ rie, on Saturday, June 17th, 1939. Ov­ er 80 members were present, coming from’ Detroit, Toronto, Brigden, Lis­ towel, Mitchell, Ethel, Brussels and surrounding district, After the usual sumptuous dinner served by the ladies, the afternoon was spent in sports, races and base­ bait Following the evening meal the election of officers took place: Pres­ ident, Thos, J, Earl, Mitchell; Sec.- Treas., Mrs. Thos. Earl, Gorrie; Sports Com.: Mrs. John Gathers, Lor- een and Jack Thornton, Gorrie, and Dorothy Jardine, Brussels; Refresh­ ment Com.: Mr. and Mrs. Less. Earl, Ethel,, and Mr, and Mrs. Wm. Jardine of Brussels.
