The morning service was conducted by the . pastor, Rev, H. M. Watt who gave a very impressive sermon entitled "God’s Diamonds.” A six piece orch- * estra from Harriston supplied sacred music and a solo "The Holy City” was very beautifully rendered by |Mr, . James Mallen. In the afternoon there was a service pf music under the lead­ ership of the same orchestra. Mrs, Bruce Holton, of Harriston, was the . guest soloist. Mr. and Mrs, Ed. Bolton, Maxine and Clare spent Wednesday of last week in London. Ladies’ Aid Held Meeting The Presbyterian Ladies' Aid met at the home of Mrs. Stewart Edgar on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 6. In the absence of the president, the meeting was taken by Mrs. Burns Stewart, vice president. Very inter­ esting readings were given by several of the ladies. Miss Bess Cluff and Mr. Lloyd Hoggal'th, of Seaforth, spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Avery, tribute to Kenora Publisher The following which was taken from the “Kenora Miner and News” relates to a cousin of Mrs. Thomas Bradhock and Miss Kate Earngey: “A comunity tribute to an outstand­ ing citizen of Kenora and district, was paid at the funeral of the late J, P, Eariigcy, publisher and editor of the Kenora Miner and News, with repre­ sentatives of the town council, Board of Trade, Rotary Club, 16th Medium Battery, Kenora School children; and other organizations, assembled to pay a last tribute to one who had given himself unselfishly to the betterment of the* town and district during the past forty-two years. Rt. Rev. Joseph Lofthouse, D.D., Bishop of Keewatin, presided at the funeral service held in the home and during the simple but impressive and solemn service, he paid a rich tribute to the services of Mr. Earngey in the interest of the town, district and of others, down through the years.” SUNDAY SCHOOL HELD ANNIVERSARY The .Gorrie United Church Sunday School celebrated their anniversary services with special morning and af­ ternoon programmes. The youngest members of the Sunday School prac­ tically filled the centre pews of the Church and appreciated the very in­ teresting sermon the pastor delivered, The Harriston United Church Or­ chestra assisted at both services. In the morning Miss1 Marguerite Bradley and Mr. Burton Dixon gave a fine violin and claronette duet, while Mrs. Bruce Holtom also of Harriston; sang a lovely solo, The orchestra played the offertory'also, A piano duet by Misses Jean Holbein and Phyllis Hemmingway was enjoyed as was the solo by Mr, James Mallen who sang gill “The Holy City,” The programme in the afternoon was devoted entirely to music. A song service was enjoyed by all and Mrs. Holtom again gave a solo. Misses Eleanore Carson and Phyllis Hemm­ ingway played a piano duet. Members of the Harriston orchestra favored with special numbers, Miss Bradley with a violin solo, Messrs. Douglas King, Nelson Young and Burton Dix­ on, a saxaphone trio. Both services were very much worthwhile. Those coming from Harriston were Mrs. Bruce Holtom, soloist; Miss M. Bradley, violinist; Mr. Douglas King, Mr. Nelson Young, saxaphonists; Mr, Burton Dixon, cornet, .saxaphone and claronette; Mr. Kenneth Blakely, sax- aphonist; Miss Winnifrcd Aitcheson, pianist. WROXETER Mr. and Mrs. L* F. McLaguhlin, of Oshawa, were week-end visitors with Mrs. Robert McLaughlin. Mr. Tom Shearer and Miss Beatrice Shearer were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Padfield, Orange­ hill. Mr. and Mrs. H. Patterson, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Maclean and Jack, were London visitors on Wednesday. Mrs. John MacNaughton, London, is visiting at the home of her son, D. i S. and Mrs. MacNaughton. Mr. and Mrs. .Austin Morrison, of St. Catharines, were week-end guests of Mrs. Morison Sr. in town. Mr. and Mrs. B. Martin, also Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Wearring were Lon­ don visitors on Wednesday. The many friends here of Mrs. Jean Thompson, Wingham, who spent the winter months with her nephew, Mr. Eldred Nichol and Mrs. Nichol, re­ gret very much her accident of last week when her hip was broken. All will wish her a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Cameron Inglis and Jackie, of Atwood, were guests of friends on the 4th line on Friday. Mrs. Wesley Paulin and baby dau­ ghter returned home on Friday from Wingham General Hospital. Those from here attending the East Huron District Annual at Fordwich on Friday were: Miss K. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stocks visited their daughter, Mrs. Lloyd North and Mr. North in London last week. Miss Jean McBurney was a guest at the Henderson - Powell wedding on Saturday. Wade, spent Tuesday and Wednesday in London and attended the graduation at Western University when Miss Lillian Aikenhead, Lon­ don, was among the graduates. Word was received here last week of the death of Donald, 10-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Blake Young, of Plcasantdale, Sask. A year ago the Young family motored East and spent several months in this vicinity. Don­ ald’s death followed an operation for appendicitis. Deep sympathy is ex­ tended to the family and friends. Hupfer who has been very poorly for some time, is improv­ ing, her many friends are glad to hear. - r t flF.* J Women’s Missionary Society The June meeting of the W.M.S. was held at the home of Mrs. B.. Cooke on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Grant had charge of the meeting and opened with the hymn “Rejoice your Lord is King” followed by the read­ ing of the 147th Psalm and prayer. Mrs. Sanderson gave an interesting reading and Mrs. Grant gave a sum­ mary of the new study book “Moving Millions.” Following the singing of the missionary hymn. “Jesus shall reign where’er the sun.” The presi­ dent took charge. A splendid bale val­ ued at $23.50, was reported, plans al­ so were made to change the time of meeting to 3 p.m. Bishop Helier’s fine old missionary hymn and the Mizpah benediction brought the meeting to a close. James McTavish, 4th line Turnberry, was the scene of a happy gathering on Fri­ day evening last when friends, neigh­ bors and relatives, gathered in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Grant (nee Bell McTavish) and presented them with a' miscellaneous shower.
