W. J. Mains was taken to Chatham Hospital with an attack of scarlet fever. Mrs. Procter of Brussels visited her sisters, Mrs. Charles Bell and Mrs, John Bailey, over Sunday. Tlie regular meeting of the Home and School Club, the annual meeting, will be held in the United Church on Wednesday evening, May 18th. Mr. Kincaid, the school inspector, will give the address. There will be a prize of $1.00 for the room that has the most parents attending this meeting. Mr. G. M. Chambers is confined to his home through illness. Mr. Stan Sibtliorpe is having a gar­ age erected at the west end of his store. g At the last meeting of Bly.th Mas­ onic Lodge of interest was the pres­ entation to Mr. J. B. Tiernay, Past D.D.G.M., with a fifty year jewel. The presentation was made by D.D.G.M. McLeod of South Huron. Mr. John Ellis is confined to his home with an attack of the flu. Mr. R. Stalker, who has been con­ fined to his home for the past month is able to be around' again. Mr. John Clark was in Brussels on Monday on business. Mother’s Day was observed in the United Church on Sunday, May 14th. The morning service was a combin­ ed service of the Sunday School and congregation and the church was fill­ ed to capacity. S. S. Siipt. iMr. Leslie Hilborn, presided and the Mother’s Day progra m was used. A beautiful story “The Room of Gold” was told by Miss Clara McGowan. An address “The Model Mother” was given by Rw. A. Sinclair. The Sacrament of Baptism was administered, five child­ ren being baptized. In the evening the subject of the sermon was “The Foolish Mother.” A, large choir of women rendered excellent service at both morning and evening services. Wright preached a fine sermon in keeping with the theme. The floral decoration was a basket of lovely snap-dragons, a Mother’s Day gift to Mrs. Robin­ son Woods. The CKNX Hill Billies of Wing­ ham will provide music for an enter­ tainment and dance under the aus­ pices of the Women’s Institute in the Community Hall on Friday evening. Tlie regular -monthly meeting of the W.M.S. was held on Wednesday afternoon at the church with fifteen members present. The devotional pro­ gramme was in charge of Mrs. James McGill’s group. After the opening hymn ,Mrs. McGill led in prayer. Mrs. Wm. McVittie read the Scripture les­ son from St. Luke, 12th Chapter, she also read the devotional leaflet “It is not what a man has but what he is.” Mrs. Wm. McDowell gave.an instru­ mental “Whispering .Hope”. Mrs. LI, Blair gave a reading “Bring thy gifts to the Altar.” Mrs. T. Walsh gave a reading on “Mothers.” Mrs. Maryin McDowell gave the report of the Presbyterial meeting held recently at Wingham, The president, M'rs, Wm. Vittie was in charge of the business. Miss Minnie Shell gave a piano solo “Tell Mother . I’ll Be There.” Mrs. McVittie led in prayer. The minutes of the April meeting were read and approved. The roll was called, each one present responding with a verse of Scripture. The treasurer reported $35.00 sent to branch treasruer, Plans were made for purchasing new carpet for the choir loft. Committees were appointed in preparation for the 50th Jubilee of the Church to be held in July. The ceiling of the basement has been papered since the last meeting by Mr. Lloyd Miller, The meeting closed with prayer by Mrs, James Mc­ Gill.
