Ready, 75, who died in Memorial Hospital Nov. 18 was burn at Wellburn and farmed there until retiring and moving to St. Marys X2 years ago. His body rested at the Ball funeral home till 2 p.rp. Wednes day, Nov, 21 when the Rev, R, D, Crosby conducted funeral services. Interment was in St. Marys cemetery, He is -survived by his wife, the former Ella Beattie of Avon- bank, and three sons, Lloyd of St. Marys, John of Lucan and Charles of Avonbank; also one sister, Mrs, Lillian McKim of St. Marys and one brother, Thomas W. Hillcreit Farm Forum ■ The Hillcrest Farm Forum did* not meet last week‘but several members attended the Middle sex Federation of Agriculture turkey banquet at Holy Trinity Church, Lucan, on Tuesday eve ning when. Mr. W. K. Riddell, agriculture ’ representative, ahd Rev. J. P, Prest4 were speakers, Mt. and Mrs. Rea Neil were host and hostess for the meeting on Monday evening when the subject under discussion was “The Soil Bank Idea.” The for um divided into two groups and one group thought that a soil bank plan would not be bene ficial to Canadian farmers ih reducing surpluses. The other group felt it would be beneficial to reduce surpluses to increase the price. Both groups thought that The soil bank plan would be bene ficial in promoting soil conser vation. Members-of both groups were agreed there were farm lands which should be taken put Of production and this should be done by summer fallowing, pas ture and reforestration. Wind Accident Mr. Joe Benn is now a patient in South Huron Hospital with a broken jaw and facial injuries as a result ofi last Wednesday’s strong winds. Mr. Benn who is a government vegetable inspector, was driving on No. 4 Highway. When turning west at Mt. Car mel the 80-mile-an-hour wind, blew his car off the road into a pile of logs. You have only to watch a, sessitm for a few minutes to realize that the boys are being taught more than rough anp tumble hockey, They are learn ing the rudiments of team work, as well as to follow direction. South Middlesex Minors will hold ' forth every Monday night starting at 7 p.m., which is an- othex* bargain night—three games of midget hockey, I had hoped it wouldn’t be necessary to make the following announcement: “Any person hav ing been deprived of the privi leges of the arena (hockey team members'included) will not be allowed to return, until his cage is reviewed by the board. The Lucan Skating Club will organize this week. Anyone in terested in figure skating instruc tion is asked, to contact your truly as soon as possible. Another project is nearing com pletion. The horse barn, north of the arena, is almost finished and will be housing some of the best horses in the district, in the very near future. Don Banting is “beating the drum” for a dinner, with entertainment to celebrate the completion of same. He hopes to bfe able to' bring to Lucan, one of panada’s finest 6n- tertainers, 'along with “Rags^” the educated horse. This should be a night to remember, for those interested in following the “nags.” The Boys’ Club met last week and ..decided to hold another dance the week preceding Christ mas. They also discussed plans for -organizing with the junior drama club fbr a (future Teen Town. The band idea is catching on. Several of the local boys haye approached yours truly in regard to same, including a newcomer, Russ Radcliffe, who-rhhs offered his help in .training the boys. Rehearsals are going on all over town. The ubig cast of “Brownsville Saturday Nite,” is polishing up tlleir acts in prepar ing for opening night this Thurs day, at the Arena. The men were separated from the boys when Lucan boys had to play 40 minutes of hockey de feating Mitchell 5 to 3 in a whale of a game. Jack Ready, Ivan Hearn.,and the executive'1 have lined up a terrific team for the ’56- 57;..hockey season, . . ■ Bdlf-Whii’e played a good game and did an excellent job of mas ter minding.
