Yelow and white ’mums, ferns and. tall standards of candles at the altar formed the® setting for the event. The installing officer was Mrs. Allan Fraser, assisting her, as installing patron was Mr., Allan Fraser. Mrs. Rufus Kestle was* the in­ stalling marshall. A large Christmas cake and a donation of $10 will be sent to the Odd Fellows Home at Barrie and gifts for children under the care of Huron county Children’s Aid Society will be collected at the first meeting in December. A bridge and euchre marathon for lodge members will be ar­ ranged for the winter months by a committee made up of Mrs. Archie Morgan, Mrs. William Thomson, Mrs. Gerald McFalls and Mrs. Ray Jory. Noble grand Miss Ruth Skin­ ner named Mrs. Stuart Dick, Mrs. Gerald Skinner, Mrs. Fred Cole, Mrs. Glenn Fisher and Miss Margaret Cook as the C P and T committee for 1956-57. Seaforth Teacher Wins Wl Award Miss Mary Whyte, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W; L. Whyte of R.R. 2, Seaforth, has been a- warded the Huron County Ontario Women’s Institue Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a Huron. County 4-H homemak­ ing club member who has shown outstanding progress and de­ velopment, given excellent lead­ ership, and carried out Club work of a high calibre. Last year, Mary graduated from the diploma course at Mac­ donald Institute, At present, she is attending Stratford Teacher’s College. Mary has completed eight 1-Iomemaking Club projects. Golden Fruit Cake (Mrs. Fred Hatter) 1 lb. white raisins ll/2 .cup blanched almonds 1V4 cup diced candied pine­ apple / 1 cup coconut Vz lb. candied cherries 1. lb. mixed glazed fruits Flour these with Vz cup flour. Cream together: 1 cup white sugar ■ 1 cup butter Beat 5 eggs very light and add to butter and sugar mixture. Beat well. Sift IVs cups flour with 1 tsp. salt and’I1/! tsp. baking powder; Add to first mixture alternately with Vi cup crushed pineapple. Beat mixture well. Add 1 tsp. vanilla and Vi tsp. almond ex­ tract. Then add fruit and nuts. Stir until well mixed. Bake in 250° oven for 3‘ hours? Mrs. Hatter lines her cake pan with 2 layers of heavy wax­ ed paper. To keep the cake moist, she sets a pan of water in the oven while the fruit cake is baking. »* >t< * Our dark cake recipe was giv­ en to us by Mrs. I. C. Cowan who has ben so willing to share her recipes with us. She likes to try out new ones and we feel sure you’ll like to try this one for Magic Fruit Surprise Cake (Mrs. I. C. Cowan) V/z cups (15 oz. can) Eagle- Brand sweetened condensed milk 1% cups’ mince meat 1 cup walnut" meats (coarsely chopped) « 2 cups mixed candied fruits (coarsely chopped) 1 egg beaten % cup flour Vz tsp. baking soda Method—1. To Eagle Brand milk add mince meat and beat- en M ---- Dredge fruit and nuts, with small amount' of flour. 3. Stir flour, fruit and nuts into milk and egg mixture until just blended. 4. Pour mixture into 9x4x3 inch loaf pan which has been greased, lined with wax paper and greas­ ed again. 5. Bake in moderate oven (350°) for foi* 1 hr. and 30 minutes or until centre springs back when lightly touched and cake is golden brown. If pyrex dish is used reduce heat to 325°, P.S.—In talking with Mrs. Cowan about her tea bjseuit recipe of a few weeks ago, she noted that we had made a mis­ take in the amount of Mazola oil.
