Andrew Jchnston Drugs, the Main St. store which has al­ ready been introduced to Exeter and district through its pre­ opening Rexall 1-cent sale, will Stage, its official opening this Friday t and Saturday. Highlights of the weekend opening will be special drug values, free gifts and refresh­ ments and a draw for numerous prizes. Mayor R, E. Pooley will pick the winners Saturday night. Completely remodelled, the new Exeter store features, merchand- isingj methods which are being introduced to this district for the first time. r The store was designed on the self-service system and all its products are conveniently dis­ played on modern shelves and islands. Three rows of powerful slimline cold cathode lights, the most modern fixtures availiable, diffuse light evenly throughout the building. In ad­ dition, fluorescent pulbs are used along the tops of display shelves on either side. Banks of spotlights highlight the win­ dows. The color scheme, peach and light green, adds a cheerful note of cleanliness. Two steps, from sidewalk lev­ el to the store floor, have bOen removed from the outside to the inside of the building to remove danger of ice in the winter time. { Besides featuring famous Rex- all products, Andrew Johnston Drugs will carry a- number of exclusive lines. Brand names in­ clude Richard Hudnut, Yardley’s Carleton Greeting Cards, Devon Jce. Cream, Baby Bunny Nuts,,. Jehny Lynd chocolates and Nix­ on animal aids. The store offers a complete infants’ department, including popular baby foods and medi­ cines. Mr. Johnston, who held the rank- of major when he was dis­ charged. from the army was chief instructor of the London defence group for ‘two years. He served with the Essex- Scottish regiment during the war and fought in most western European countries, including France, Belguim, Holland and Germany. During his- tour of service overseas, he married a Dutch girl, Connie, in Nijmegun,. Hol- lahd. They have two children, Debbie, seven, and Leonard Ian, two. Mr. Johnston began-his pharm­ acy apprenticeship in his home town, Stratford, before joining the army. After discharge, he returned to the Classic City to complete his training and then spent two years at Pharmacy College, Toronto,* where he re­ ceived his Ph.M.B. degree. He was employed by the Tay­ lor Drug Co. in London for six months before purchasing his own drug store on Wharncliffe Road in 1949. Mr. Johnston sold this business earlier this year. DELICIOUS !
