I Question of school accommoda tion is again being discussed by municipal authorities in McGil livray township. The school area board and township council, at a joint meet ing last week, reconsidered the controversial proposal of a new central school for the township. Board members, whose pro posal of a central school flared mlo an issueof last November’s election, still feel the project-is worth considering. They consider it more practical than'spending large sums io rennovate old school buildings in the township. • Board Chairman Bryden Tay lor said no definite proposal was made to the council. Other school matters were also discussed. "We do not propose,” the chairman told The Times-Advocate, “to present the central school idea to the ratepayers this year but we haven’t dropped it." In the controversy last year, two councillors* who declared themselves in favor of a central building were defeated in a spirit ed election. Members of the board who met with council included the chair man, David Henry, Calvert Nichol, Frank Dickens, Mar- wood Prest and Elmer Shepherd, In its regular session, council approved a grant of $40 to help pa}' for funeral expenses of an indigent immigrant. Fight Beer Sales In Food Stores "Beer sold in grocery stores" was the subject discussed by members of the Exeter-Hensall branch of the W.C.T.U. at their regular meeting on Tuesday at the home of Mrs. William Py- bus. It was established that in the number of alcoholics per 100,000 population, Canada is ex ceeded by five other countries, the U.S.A., France, Sweden, Switzerland and Denmark. In the province of Quebec, where beer is sold in groceries, the number of alcoholics is greater than in Ontario, it was noted, and homes where both parents are abstainers produce fewer young people who drink beer.
