After . Caledonia registered a
single run in the top of the third
to tie the game up,*Exeter ex
ploded for six in their half of
the inning. •
Caledonia’s Herb Leeming,
who had relieved Eddy Lee on
the mound in the second, was in
turn relieved by Brian Griffith
in a vain attempt to stop a six-
run outburst. No less than 11
players carried bats to the plate
before the Exeter club could be
retired.
Singles by Bill Weatherston
and Lee along with an error and
three walks given up by Jim
Russell enabled Caledonia to
pull two -.runs closer in the
fourth.
As the Legionaires held Exeter
off the scoresheet from the
fourth to the seventh inning,
they scored a single run. in the'
sixth and added three in each
of the seventh and eighth frames
to take their temporary 11-8
lead.
Fred “Crafty” Hunter took
over the pitching chores from
Russell in the fifth and hurled
three consecutive innings before
giving way to Russell in the
eighth when he ran into trouble
as the Legion club rallied for
three runs.
The three inning's rest, however, was all Russell needed as
lie silenced the Caledonia bat
ters for the balance of the game.
The fourth inning produced a
fast-moving double play for the
winners as the ball went from
Barry Glover at short to Jim
j Hennessey at first and back to
j Doug Sfllery fit home plate in
lime to nail Bill Weatherston
• trying to score from third.
Winning pitcher Jimmy Rus
sell recorded six strikeouts and
•gave up eight free bases on
balls while Fred Hunter whiffed
two and walked four in the three
innings he toiled.
Only three of the newly crown
ed Midget “C” champions went
down via tne strikeout route.
On the arrival of the now On
tario Champions into Exeter, a
monstrous parade was formed
which saw a mile of cars fol
lowing the ball club, who were

truck.
