Joynt, native of Hensall and. now a foreign af­ fairs specialist at a Pennsylvan­ ia university, was named “Al­ umnus of the Month” by the University of Western Ontario. The award was announced in the September isue of the O. ^WO. Alumni Gazette, which ■wk |W«3arey B. Joynt, Arts ’45, is I,.Western graduate who has at­ tained importance as a writer m the field of international re­ lations and is now on the staff of Lehigh University at Bethle­ hem, Pennsylvania. “Dr. Joynt took his graduate work and received his doctoral degree at Clark University and taught for a time at that institu­ tion. Mil­ ler, who died at her home in Staffa on Saturday was held on Tuesday from the home of her daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hoggarth, Staffa, and was largely attended. Rev. S. Kerr of Cromarty Presbyter­ ian church officiated assisted by Rev. A. H. Daynard, Staffa. Kinette Club Gets Charter Charter Night of the Hensall Kinette Club was held at the New Commercial Hotel, Hensall, on Tuesday, October 9, when District Kinette Convener Lois Peckitt, of Chatham; installed the officers; President, Mrs. vice-president, University in the fall of 1951, he was recently named Chair­ man of the Department of In­ ternational Relations, for the 1956-57 academic year. Hensall Lady Reaches 94 Congratulations are in order for Mrs. Eliza Cole, Hensail’s oldest resident who will be 94 years' old on Monday, October 15. Mrs, Cole, who makes her home with her son and daughter- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Cole, of Hensall, is remarkably keen and can recall interesting events relating back to her school days at S.S. 5 Cromarty, S.S. 6 Hibbert and Lumley school, which she attended as a young girl. She thinks she is the only person living that attended Cromarty school. Mrs. Cole enjoys fairly good health, likes to receive visitors and is a wonderful conversationalist. She has one son, William, a grand­ son, Alvin Cole, of Cromarty, and two -great-grandchildren. Hyde, was united in marriage to Robert Earl Cald­ well, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. William Caldwell, Kippen. The double-ring ceremony was performed by Rev. C. D. Daniel in a setting of lighted tapers and standards of white and yellow mums and gladioli. Miss Greta Lammie played traditional wed­ ding music and accompanied .the soloist, Mss Mary Goodwin, Hen­ sall. . The lovely young bride, given in marriage by her brother, James Hyde, wore a floor-length gown of crystal charm satin with portrait neckline, trimmed with iridescent sequins and lily­ point. .sleeves. The full circular skirt featured a pleated hip scarf falling into a bow at the back and sequin-trimmed front panel. A crown of. sequins held her French illusion v.pil and she car­ ried a cascade 'of yellow roses and white mums. Miss Helen Down, of Hensall, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor and the bridesmaids were Mrs. Robert Bell and Miss Mari­ lyn Eyre, of Hensall. All wore ballerina-length princess gowns of _ crystallette over taffeta with pointed gored skirts in gold, bronze and mint respectively, with matching headdresses and mitts. They carried cascades of bronze and’ yellow mums. Beverly Broadfoot, of Bruce- field, attended the groom and the ushers were Ronald Caldwell and Harold Caldwell, of Hensall, brothers of the groom. The wedding reception was held in the church7 parlors where the bride’s mother received the guests wearing a rose satin sheath dress with navy acces­ sories and a corsage of white mums. She .was assisted by the grom’s mother who wore a taupe silk sheath dress with bronze accessories and a corsage of white mums. ■ For their wedding trip to Montreal and points east, the bride 'chose a black tweed suit with peacock blue and Wack ac­ cessories, and a cofsage of pink Sweetheart roses. McKelvie, V.S., who has practiced in Hensall for the past five years, is leaving on October 8 for Essex to go into partnership 'with Dr. G. S. Brown,,, V.S. Both Dr, McKelvie and his wife have been active in various organizations in the community. The veterinarian was charter president of the Kinsmen Club and served for two years in that I post. He was on the executive i of the Legion and a member of i the South Huron Agricultural Society and other organizations. Mrs. McKelvie served as presi­ dent of the Legion Ladies Auxil­ iary, and the evening auxiliary of the. United Church and was a member of the Kinette club. They have two children, Ro­ bert and Ann, Suprise Dinner Marks Birthday Monday, October 8 proved a real Thanksgiving for Mr. John Passmore when his family held a surprise dinner party for him at Armstrong’s, Exeter, in honor of his seventy-eighth birthday. Pass- more, of Owen Sound. Personal Items Mr. and Mrs. George Hess at­ tended the funeral of the late Mr, Reid Kirk, at Fairgrove, Mich., on Monday. Mr. Kirk is a cousin of Mr. Hess. Ladies of Carmel Church -met at the home of Mrs. E. Murin last week and made a quilt, the top of which was donated by Miss Stella Robinson, Toronto. Miss Mary Buchanan, R.N., of Toronto, was a recent visitor with her sister and brother-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. George Arm­ strong.
