CELEBRATION FOR HISTORY-MAKING PUPS—At a
“coming out” party in New York, this litter of five nine-
week-old. Beagles pose with Susan Chaskel after making
history as the first pups ever born as the result of a
trans-Atlantic artificial insemination in which the mother
never loft Ithaca, N.Y., and the sire never left England,
Dr. A. Harrop, University of London, prepared samples of
semen for shipment by air to Dr. E. P. Leonard, New
York State Veterinary college—Cornell university, who
conducted the insemination. of the female beagle. Pre
served semen, diluted with boiled pasteurized milk, was
used 140 hours after leaving England. The average life
