Gram’s Trophy, We congratulate her and hope it brings her a great deal of pleasure in the next year. Mrs. Passmore really enjoys baking. She has been generous in sharing her recipes with us and, when we called on her last week, she had two of her prize winning ones all written out for us. She wasn’t accustomed to making whole wheat gems, but hunted up a recipe in one of her cook books and after using it twice, made the prize winning gems. Wholf Wheat Gems (Mrs, Aimer Passmore) % cup sifted pastry flour V2 tsp. baking powder 1 cup brown sugar ¥2 tsp. salt 1/2 cup whole wheat flour 1 egg ¥2 cup sour milk 4 Tbsp, soft buttei* • .. Mix and sift white flour, soda, sugar and salt. .Add whole wheat flour. Combine beaten pgg, milk and cooled melted butter. Make a well in centre of dry ingredi­ ents.-Pour-in wet-mixture and mix very quickly. Mixture should be lumpy, not smooth. Fill well- greased muffin tins % full. Bake 0 oven. Makes 12 now we all know that 1 Aimer Passmore woo Three Minute Fudge C«ki» (Mrs, Lloyd Jones) Beat together for one minute; 2 eSSs 1% cups brown sugar (firmly packed 2 squares melted chocolate Sift together; 2 cups sifted cake flour 1 tsp. baking soda *4 tsp. salt Combine: . .1 cup sour milk 1 tsp. vanilla Add flour mixture ¥2 cup shortening • ¥2 of the liquid * . Beat vigorously for 1 minute. Add remaining liquid and beat for 1 minute. Pour into 13x9x2 inch cake pan or 8 inch layer pans. Bake at 350’ for 45 min­ utes. Hope, Zurich and Dashwood attended the wedding, ■> -—*— ----------—-—- Family Gathering Dual Celebration Mr. Thomas Jolly, of' Exeter, was pleasantly surprised when members of his family met at his home on Monday evening to. hohor him on the occasion of his- birthday. The celebration also marked 19 years to the day that Mr. and Mrs. Jolly and family moved from the west to take up residence in Exeter in 1937. Mr. Jolly was presented with a nylon shirt and a birthday cake was provided by his daugh­ ter Mrs. Cecil Kipfer of Hensail. Crokinole and scrabble were played during the recreational period. ,.
