Bible School were held in Calvary E.U.B- Church Friday evening, July 37, The program c o n s i s. t e d of choruses by the pupils and memory exercises by the seve­ ral classes. This was followed by a summer Christmas tree in which all the scholars took part m readings and the decorating of the tree. The exercise was entitled “O’er AU, The Star.” Sixty-three children of the community took part and parents and friends viewed their work of the past two weeks. The school was conducted by Rev. W. F. Krotz assisted by Mrs. J. M. Tieman and Mrs. H. J. Keller­ man and some of the older pupils. H, Pike of Ilderton comenced his duties as minister in the United Church with com­ bined service at Mt. Pleasant church Sunday morning. Rev. and Mrs. Pike have moved to the village. Mr. Harold Tufts, of Toronto, is spending a few weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Tufts and while there has been teaching the Adult Men’s Class the last couple of Sundays. Hon. James G. Gardiner of Ottawa spent the weekend with his sister, Mrs. George Allen. Mr. Wilson Allen of Kirkland Lake and Frank Allen of Crom­ arty visited with Mrs. George Allen on Tuesday. Honor Bride.Elect Mrs. Horace Greenstreet and daughter, Eva, were hostesses to the Young Ladies’ Sunday School Class when they present­ ed one of their members, Miss Hene Roger, with a gift prior to her marriage Saturday. Contests and the making of the bride’s book provided the evening’s pro­ gram. Lunch was served by the committee in charge. The Class That Counts The Class That Counts met at the home of Bessie Morrison for their August meeting. The roll call was answered with “Where I would like to spend my vaca­ tion.” Mary Tufts, took charge of the worship service, assisted by Evelyn Wright and Pearl Budden. Guest speaker, Mrs. Joan Near, told about lamps and how they were used as a symbol in the Bible. It was decided to buy tea plates and salt and pepper shakers for the church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Holmes and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wil­ liam Avery, all of Lucan. Mrs. Clarence Hardy was organist and Mrs. Kay Egan soloist. The bride wore a gown of French lace over white satin with floor-length veil and car­ ried a bouquet of American Beauty .roses and white carna­ tions. Miss Nancy Holmes was her sister’s maid of honor. She wore blue taffeta trimmed with white lace with three-quarter length blue veil. She carried pink car­ nations. The flower girl, Sharon Simms, of Norwich, wore pink taffeta' and net and carried .white and pink carnations with blue cornflowers. Bern Avery was his brother’s grooomsman and ushers were Joseph Walem and Vincent Dens­ more. Receiving guests at the bride’s home, her mother wore white and green figured silk with white accessories and pink car­ nation corsage. The groom’s mother chose royal blue linen with white accessories and pink carnation corsage. For travelling the bride don­ ned a pearl grey suit with white accessories. Walkerton eliminated the Dash­ wood dub 5’2 in a five inning game. Errors and walks given up by Ratz proved costly. Exeter Pee Wees under the guidance of Derry Boyle, clip­ ped a Port Elgin squad 6-4 but bowed to New Hamburg in their second tilt 12-6. Don Cann of Exeter was the winning pitcher in the 6-4 de­ cision over Port Elgin. Bill Hey­ wood, who caught for Exeter had two singles and a double while Rickey Boyle and Fred Wells got two singles apiece. Seven runs in the first inning on three hits, one walk and three Exeter errors gave New Ham­ burg a commanding seven run lead over, the locals. Rickey Boyle was the losing pitcher while Ron Eichler chalk­ ed up fhe victory. Dale Turvey and Bill Heywood each whalloped a triple for the Exeter crew. of COMING EVENTS 67.
