Presentation Prior to their departure to their new field of labor at Milton Rev. and Mrs. J. A. Graham last Saturday night were present­ ed with a beautiful chrome set of table and chairs by members of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mr. Ed Butler made the presentation. Trousseau Tea Last Wednesday afternoon and evening Mrs. Dell Sprowl en­ tertained at a trousseau tea for her niece, Miss Helen Howard, prior to her wedding on Satur­ day. Over 125 friends registered in a_ book in charge, of two small girls, Heather Acheson and Nan­ cy Watson. During the afternoon Mrs. J. C. Veitch, Mrs. Harry Beaumont and Mrs. Erwin Scott poured tea and Mrs. E. Francois, Mrs, Lloyd Acheson and Miss Doris Weir served. Miss Pat Watson dis­ played the trousseau both after­ noon and evening. Mrs. D. A. Small and Mrs. H. Shortt dis­ played the gifts and Mrs. Leroy Revington and Mrs. Allan Scott the linens and china. In the evening, Mrs. Edgar McFalls, Mrs. Harold Hodgins and Mrs. T. A. Watson poured tea. Miss Delrene Coursey, Miss Alice Haggar, Mrs. Allan Hill and Mrs. Lloyd Acheson served. Miss Joan Hodgins displayed the gifts and Miss Marion Ashworth and Miss Barbar Marshall, the china and linens. Mrs. William Blevin assisted Mrs. Sprowl and the bride-elect receive door. Mrs. Walter Rice guests to the tea room. Stearn Guilfoyle After a lengthy illness, _____ Guilfoyle, 84, passed away July 18 in the Maple Lynn Nursing Home, Ilderton. He lay at rest in the C. Haskett and Son fun­ eral home, Lucan where Rev. J. P. Prest of Holy Trinity Ang­ lican Church, conducted funeral services on Friday, July 20. In­ terment was in St. James cem­ etery, Clandeboye. Son of the late Edward and Elizabeth Guilfolyle he was born on Concession 4 Biddulph, one mile south of Lucan. In 1903 he went to Brantford where he work­ ed for the Massey Harris Co. ^•ftxover 30 years’ before moving London.^■kNr. Guilfoyle was a bachelor. Bzs only survivors are one sister, Mrs. Walter Coursey of Conces­ sion 4 Biddulph and one brother, Oliver Guilfoyle of Concession 10 Biddulph. Pall bearers were Walter Cour­ sey, Cyril Coursey, Norman Coursey, Gordon Acheson, Joe Benn and Fred Mcllhargey. Baseball News The Lucan Irish Nine played Evelyn last week defeating them 9-0 which left them in third place. On Monday evening they begin the best of three play-offs at Evelyn. Granton and St. Pauls begin their play-offs at St. Pauls on Thursday night. Bride-Elect Feted Prior to her marriage to Ron­ ald Coleman at 10 a.m. Satur­ day, July 28, Miss Carole Brooke formerly of Lucan was the guest of honor at a Lucan and London shower. In Lucan her aunt, Mrs. Harold McFalls entertained about 40 of Carole’s friends at a mis­ cellaneous shower. After the opening of gifts there was a num­ ber of contests. In London the Holeproof Hosiery staff present­ ed her with two woollen blank­ ets. Dog Wins Again Last week Mrs. Eileen Currie, entered her puppy, “Zisha’s Arc- ’ tic Star” in the Essex Kennel Club show at Leamington and once again it brought honor to its owner by capturing first prizes in “Senior Puppy Female” and “Best Canadian Bred Puppy in Breed.” Shower . Mrs. Erwin Scott entertained all the Scott cousins at a mis­ cellaneous showdr in honor of her niece, Miss Helen Howard. Pigeon Race The Forest City Pigeon Club of London staged a pigeon race from Perth this week releasing 19 lofts and 121 birds. Lucan birds didn’t do so well this time. The winnin:,’ bird won with a speed of 920.7 yards per minute. C. Hardy’s speed was 635.1. Norman Hardy’s was 834.3 and Frank Hardy’s 831.9. at the invited Stearn Weds In London Baskets of white mums and gladioli decorated Elmwood Ave. Presbyterian Church, London, Thursday, July 19 when mar­ riage vows were exchanged by Agnes Janet Hilborn and Dr. William Harvey Bevington, both of London. Mr. and Mrs, Don­ ald Henry, Turnerville, Ont. are parents of the bride and the groom is the son of Wesley Rev- ington, Lucan, and the late Mrs. Revington. The Rev. John Felck officiated and wedding music was played by Mrs. Harry McGilton, Bride In White And Blue The bride wore a dress of. white crystalette, flecked with blue and styled with a scoop neckline. The empire waistline was trimmed with a large flat bow in romance blue and the full skirt was worn with a crin­ oline, A large white straw pic­ ture hat and a small nosegay of pink roses, white stephanotis and trailing ivy completed her en­ semble. Mrs. Harry McNaughton, sister of the groom, as matron of hon­ or chose a dress of romance blue crystalette with a large matching picture hat and carried a white nosegay similar to that of the bride. Harry McNaughton was groomsman.' Receiving guests at Hotel Lon­ don the bride’s mother wore a dress of b1ue lace over silk, a matching hat trimmed with tiny flowers and a corsage of pink roses. A reception was held later at the home of the groom's fathe- er,. Mrs. Wes Revington in Lu­ can. j Honeymoon In Europe The young couple will spend their honeymoon'in Europe. For travelling, the bride chose a blue and white print with brief jacket, small white hat and cor­ sage of white carnations. On their return Dr. and Mrs. Revington will make their pome in London. The groom is a graduate of Acadia University, N.S. and the faculty of dentistry at McGill University. Mr. Bob Watson spent a few days in Windsor before returning to work after his recent opera­ tion, Rev. Dr. A. Duplan of Port Huron, was guest speaker at the memorial service at fjt. George’s Anglican, church. He spoke on the “Wisdom- of Solomon.” After nearly two years as nurse and housekeeper for Mrs. Dave Ashworth, Mrs. Doris Straw­ horn of Thorndale was called home owing to the illness of her mother. Mrs. Murray McDonald of St. Marys has taken her place. Gwynneth Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Jones of Kippen, is holidaying with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ir­ ving Gibson, and cousin, Ronnie Woodward.Mr. and Mrs. Yen Andersen are vacationing in Denmark. Kestle, 85 Dies In Dashwood Funeral services for Mrs- Ed­ ward Kestle, 85, who died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Charles Snell at Dashwood on Sunday w-re onducted from the Harry Hoffman funeral home by Rev. W, Krotz of Dashwood Evangelical church. Mrs. Kestle, the former Melis­ sa Jory, was born in Stephen township, daughter of the late Elizah Jory. Following her mar­ riage to Edward Kestle they farmed in Usborne township. Her husband died in 1939, { She was a member of James ; St. United church and had madei her home with her daughter forj the last 12 years. - < Surviving besides her daughter < are two sons, Rufus of Exeter, and Orby of Detroit; two sisters, • Mrs. Laura Harvey and Mrs. i Lucy Yellow and one brothdr, Samuel, all of Exeter. Pall bearers were Frank King, Bob Harvey, Harold Amy, Tom Yellow, Ray Jory and Charles Fisher. Interment was in Exeter ceme­ tery. i !I J f Hydro Plant Opens Gates! The guarded gates of the nerve centre for the entire Ontario Hydro system in south-western Ontario will be opened to the public for the first time next month. Guided tours>will be conducted through the E. V. Buchanan,, Frequency Changer and Trans­ former Station at Pond Mills, three miles south of London be­ tween August 12 and Sept. 3. The $13,000,000 station is the key power distributing centre for six counties. Power from Ottawa valley generating stations is transformed from 230,000 to 115,- 000 volts for district distribution and 25-cycle current from Ni­ agara Falls is converted to 60 cycle. The open house is part of the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Ontario Hydro. In announcing the open house, R. M. Laurie, manager of the Western Region, emphasized that the purpose was to give the public a fuller under­ standing of the complex opera­ tions of their power system. He said, “The people of On­ tario own this system. It is only right that they should be able to look at our operations from close range. We are pleased, that the Commission has seen fit to make this open house possible.” Tours will be conducted through the high-tension plant on Satur­ day and Sunday afternoons be­ tween one o’clock and nine from August 12 to September 2 and on Labor Day, September 3, as well as on week-day evenings between seven o’clock. and nine- thirty from August 13 to 17. * ELLIOT LAKE TO BE MODEL MINING TOWN—Elliot Lake is in the heart of Northern Ontario’s three biggest uranium mines but it has none of the drawbacks of most mining boom towns, The townsite, laid out by the Ontario department of planning and development, is a model of modern-day boom towns. Geromette, who will be 87 years of age next month. The fifth generation were Cathie and Douglas Riddoch of Sarnia. Other members present were Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Johnson and daughters Neva and Nancy, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Riddoch of Sarnia, Mr, and Mrs. T. M. Mrs Lydia Rinker Mrs. Lydia Rinker, 67, a life­ long resident of this district died at Russell Pointe, Ohio, while on a visit to her sister, Mrs. Alva Jones. Her husband, Louis Rinker, died ten years ago. She was the former Lydia Hartlieb and a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Surviving are three brothers, Charles of Windsor, John, Dear­ born, Mich., Oscar of Russell Pointe, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Ernest Hutchinson, Galt, and Mrs. Alva Jones, Russell Pointe. The body rested at the Hoff­ man funeral home untiL Saturday when services were conducted in Zion Lutheran Church and in­ terment made in Lutheran Bron­ son Line Cemetery.
