The-20 members present en joyed games on the lawn and a nature hunt. The winning team ’returned with 20 specimens they .could name'. Lunch was eaten sitting on the basement floor to make it ap pear more like a picnic (no re port on the ants). The four new members were /given the privilege of choosing '.the songs for the sing-song. Mr. Murray Hodgins chaired a program consisting of solos by Mrs. Don Revington and Gary Revington; quartette number by Bonnie Drennan, Ilene and Car olyn Donaldson and Dana Cul bert; musical number by Bobby and Sharon- Stanley and readings by Mrs, Clarence Lewis. A purse containing $250 was presented, to Mr. Cook in apprec iation of six years of faithful service by Mr. John Park while Mr. Wilbert Stanley read the ac companying address, Mrs. Warner McRoberts, on be half of the W.M.S made Mrs. Cook a life member. The W. A. presented flowers to both Mr. and Mrs. Cook. Mrs. C. H. George, W.A. president, was hostess convener. Though Mr. C’ook is retiring as pastor of Lucan and Clande- boye churches, He is not leaving Lucan, having purchased a small house almost directly opposite the church. Mr. Cook came to Canada in 1914 from England and preached three years before being ordain ed in 1920. Other charges in cluded Bancroft, Ivanhoe, En niskillen, Consecon, Fraserville, Foxbort and Guilds before com ing to Lucan. Shower Miss Helen Howard, whose marriage to Dr. Edward Lee Blevins of Stillwater, Oklahoma will take place in Holy Trinity Church at 6.30 p.m., July 21, was the guest of honor at a show er held at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Acheson with Miss Pat Watson assisting as hostess. Over 40 of Helen’s friends were pres ent. Mrs. Walter Rice of Oklahoma poured tea al a table centered with orange blossoms, on a cut work cloth. A number of games were enjoyed after which. Miss Joan Hodgins made a -presenta tion df a steam iron and pop-up toaster, Induction Service Rev. Edgar J, Roulston, of Central United Church St. Thomas, was inducted as pas tor of ‘Lucan and Clandeboye United Churches Thursday night by Rev. A. H. Me Lachlam, B.A., of Richards United Church, Lon don. The Rev. John Wareham B.A., of Appin was the guest speaker. At the reception held in the church basement, Mr. and Mrs. Roulston were introduced to all present by Mrs. Sheridan Rev ington, and Mr. Wilbert Stanley. Following refreshments, Mr. Park. recording secretary, pre sided • for a short program. Speakers were Mr. McLachlam, Mr. Wareham, Mr. Roulston, Mr, Wilbert Stanley and Mr. Erie Haskett. Reginald E. Hodgins Reginald E. Hodgins, 73, pas sed away in Windsor. Hospital, Thursday, June 30, with inter ment in Victoria Memorial Cemetery, Windsor. ’ Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. T. I. Hodgins, he was born on Con. 4, Biddulph, four miles north of Lucan. He attended school at S.-S. No. 2 and was a member of the Orange Lodge No. 493. Prior to Windsor, where he was an employee of Walker’s Distillery, hi lived in Parkhill, running a livery stable ahd a restaurant. Besides his wife, he is surviv ed by three daughters and .a son, Donna, Alma, Hilda and, Harvey, and two step-daughters, (all mar ried); also one sister, Mrs. Will Isaac, Biddulph township, and one brother, Harvey T. Hodgins, of Lucan. Surprise Party Miss Helen Hardy organized a real surprise party on her moth er’s birthday last Thursday eve ning. Twenty-six members-of the Hardy family and Miss Bette Leake were present to wish her happy birthday. A pleasant eve ning was spent in music and cards. Music Students Present Recital Pupils of Mrs. Clarence Hardy and the Junior Choir of Holy Trinity Church presented a pi ano recital in the Parish Hall last Wednesday evening. Marilyn Eaton, Tom Kestle, Jeanette Blake, Nancy Kestle, Rose Mary Hall, Nancy Haskett, Wayne Hodgins, Carol Stalkes, Randy Paul, Tom Hardy, Barbara Ready Bob Hardy, Ward Hodgins, June Lynn, Pat Egan, Frank Egan and Helen Hardy took part. The Junior Choir sang three numbers, Judy Haskett danced and Don Black entertained with his guitar. Vacation School Rev. J. P. Prest, Mrs. T. C. Anglican Guild The Ladies Guild of Holy Trini ty Church held its June meeting in the parish hall Monday night, June 25, with the president, Mrs. Harvey Hodgins, in the chair and Mrs. C. w. Hawkshaw at the piano. Mrs. T. C. McFarlane read the scripture lesson, group leaders handed in money collected in place of a strawberry festival. The highlight of the meeting was a display and sale of “Gifts Extra Ordinary.” The guild re ceived 10 percent of all sales. On Wednesday night at ■Granton they were defeated 7-2 but on Thursday night in Lucan they defeated St. Marys 12-5. Lucan Pacer Agiin A Winner “Howard Rosecroft” owned by Sheridan Revington and Bud Gil mour was again the fastest three- year-ola at Hamburg, N.Y. last Friday night in the $1600 class ABB handicap pace. Chown who under went • an operation-in Victoria Hospital, London last week is making satisfactory recovery. Mr. and Mrs. William Brown lee celebrated their thirtieth wed ding anniversary June 23 at their own home. Keith O’Neil, teen-age son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe O’Neil, had the misfortune to break a bone in his left hand while playing ball at Medway. A. E. Robinson, principal of Medway High School for the past seven years, was guest of honor at a dinner at the Latin Quarter where he was presented with a painting. Chairman of the Board, Fred O’Kime, made the presentation. Mr. Robinson has been made superintendent of secondary schools in Scarboro. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Sawyer were Sunday guests of Mrs. M. O. Smith. Mr. Charles Knapp of St. Thom as was a Wednesday guest with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Coleman, Miss Beth Hodgins is spending a few days with her sister Mrs., Sam Earle and family of Wood- stock. All returned to Lucan on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gibson of Thedford were Tuesday gu'ests of Mr, and Mrs. Chas. Windsor. Mr. and Mrs. Erie Host, who have been visiting in Atlantic City, called for' their two child ren and took them home to Ridgeville. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ford and Ralph of Detroit were Sunday guests of Mrs. Irene Coursey and family. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Parry and family returned Saturday from a two-week motor trip to Flor ida. Mrs. George Lachie of Water loo took Mrs. M. O. Smith to her home in Waterloo last Thurs day and will continue on to the Smith summer cottage on Georg ian Bay for a three week vaca tion. Dickins Wind Storm Razes Barn The wind and electrical storm which hit th<=* Lucan district Sun day evening demolished the barn of Art Mo gan between Lucan and Elginfield. Percy Tucker, who was milking a cow at the time narrowly escaped death as the calf beside him was killed but he crawled out uninjured. Two calves and eight nigs were killed. The barn was valued at $10,000. In Lucan many limbs were blown down, several transformers put on a displa * of fireworks and the village was without hydro for over two hours. . Mission Society; Appoints Leader Twenty-two members and a number of visitors attended the June, meeting of the United Church W, M. S . last Thursday afternoon. The president, Mrs. Warner McP.oberts, chaired the meeting and Mrs. S, Chown pre sided at the piano. The secretary read the resig nation of Miss Reta Chown, who has been in charge of the Mis sion Band for the past ten’years. Mrs. Howard Kew volunteered to take over. Mrs. E. M. Cook thanked, the members' for their kindness in making her a life member. The president extended Mrs. Harold Corbett’s invitation to hold the August meeting at the Corbett farm August 9. Plans were made for the child ren’s picnic on the church lawn for the July meeting. Mrs. Clarence Lewis was nam ed corresponding secretary to re place Mrs. T. S. Hill, who has moved to Woodstock. Mrs, E. R. Pitt’s group had charge of the program and refreshments. Mrs. Arthui' Black and Mrs. Wm. Aylestock led in devotions. The guest speak. - was Mrs. J. P. Prest who gave a splendid paper on mental illness. Mrs. Myron Culbert followed with a compre hensive report of the Goderich Conference last April, On Sunday, July 1, about thirty-five members of the fam ily of Mrs. Annie Mousseau gath ered at her home to celebrate here 78th birthday. A buffet sup per was served. Guests were from London, Clinton, Stratford, Exeter, Hensail, and Grand Bend. Several from this district at tended the Centennial at Zurich and also the Kinsmen Celebra tion at Exeter on the holiday. Mr. and Mrs. Therman Hay ter of Detroit spent Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Baird and are visiting other relatives in the district. Incidentally Mr. Reed is principal of the Brandon Colle giate where Mrs. Keown attend-. Pupils Honor Teacher Of Clandeboye School Miss Thompson, teacher, and pupils of Clandeboye School No. 4 and 12, with the members of the section, held their annual picnic at the school on Wednes day evening. Sports and a ball game were held.| Rosemary Hall, on hehalf of the pupils, presented Miss M. Thompson with gifts of lingerie and jewelery. St. Jam< ; Church on Satur- <day, July 21. St. James W. A. Entertain .The Women's Auxiliary of St. James Church met in the Sunday, School room with Mrs, R. M. Weekes, rector’s wife of St. George's Anglican Church, Thorn dale, as special speaker. They entertained the members of the Senior and Evening W. A.’s of Holy Trinity Church, Lucan, also the members of the W. M. S. of the Clandeboye United Church. Mrs. Weekes spoke of the tal ents each one possesses and stressed the need of making the best possible use of them. Mrs. E, Butler played piano accord ion selections and sarig two sac red number. Mrs. Andy Carter opened, the meeting and Miss Tomes and Mrs. E. Flynn led in devotions. Mrs. J. H. Paton on behalf of the members of St. James moved a vote of thanks to Mrs. R. M. Weekes and Mrs. E. Butler. Af ter refreshments were served Mrs. Rea Neil, president of the W, M.
