The Exeter Times-Advocate, 1956-06-21, Page 10Fill Church, School Room For Anniversary Services Capacity congregations filled Thames Road church and the Sunday school rooms, where a public address had heen instal led, for services marking the seventy-fifth anniversary of the church on Sunday. Rev, A. W, Gardiner, B.A..B.D. of Alvinston and a native of the community preached at the morning service. “We who re turn after a lapse of years notice such a difference in the com munity that you who live here may not notice as the change is gradual'4 said Air. Gardiner. He chose as his theme “Let us worship.” “Man is universally religious. Even the most primitive people exercised some form of wor ship” the preacher said. “As in a baseball game there are many spectators. Actually only 18 really take part in the game. So at a church service sqch as this; only a few actually worship. The others are present as spectators—they saunter in, saunter thro and saunter out again.” Mrs. Margaret Fletcher of Exeter, a former member of the congregation, was guest ship of Mrs. William provided special music. Alany former members _ _ o__i soloist and the choir under the leader- .. -________William Cann ___... . return ed for the services. Rev. A. E. Johns, BA.
