And Ladies’ Guild Mrs. Aimer Hendrie was host­ ess for the W, A. and Guild meeting last week when the ladies of'St, James Church met, Mrs. Andy Carter presided and was assisted in the devotional by Mrs. E. Flynn. During the business, plans were laid to entertain the W.M.S, members of.the Clandeboye Un­ ited Church and the W.A, mem­ bers of Holy Trinity Church, Lucan at the meeting on June 28. The guest speaker will be 'Mrs, R. M. Weekes, wife of the rector of St. George’s Anglican Church in Thorndale. Mrs. E, Lewis, vice president, presided for the Guild meeting. Material was handed out to the members from donations re­ ceived to make up articles for the bazaar in the fall. A report was given from Rev. Omen with thanks for the bale he received. Plans were made to cater for a wedding reception to be held in July at the Lucan Memorial Centre. Assisting the hostess were Mrs. Ray McRann, Mrs. P. Poole ,and Mrs. Cecil Carter. Deanery Meeting The spring meeting of West Middlesex was held at the Church of the Hosannah, Hyde Park, on Monday. Members from St. James W. A. were Mrs. P. Poole, Mrs. Hewitt, Mrs. Andy Carter, Mrs. E, Flynn, who was- elected vice president, and Mrs. E. Tomes, an officer of the Jr. W, A. Donation To Endowment Fund The rector, Rev. J. P. Prest, received word that the late Miss Margaret DeCoursey has direct­ ed in her will “that the . sum of one hundred dollars” be be­ queathed to St. James Anglican Cemetery (Biddulph Township, Ont.) endowment fund for the permanent upkeep of four plots. Personal Items Mr. Clinton Hodgins returned to Westbury, N.Y. after spending a couple of days with hi,s mother, following the funeral of his broth­ er, Grant Hodgins, on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Thatcher and family visited with Mr. and Mrs. Johnny M, Chisson of Clin­ ton Air Station, Sunday. Mr. Mac McNaughton started the taking of the census on Mon­ day. He will do concessions 1, 2; 3 and 4 Biddulph township. Mr. and Mrs, David Henry, A. Rosser and Mrs.’ Karl Bmeil attended the annual meet- Rfflj of the Bible Society in the United Church .in Ilderton on Tuesday evening. Dr. Harry O’Neil, a former member of St. James Church, is now president of the British and Foreign Bible Society and was a special speak­ er. Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Scott spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gilmour in Fort Erie. Mr. and-Mrs. Herman Powe of Exeter visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. J. H, Paton. L.O.L. Biddulph 493 met on Monday night making plans for the joint church service with L.O.B.A. 397 to be held in Holy Trinity Church, Lucan on June 17 with the rector, Rev. Mrs. Roy McRann and Beth, Mrs, Cecil Carter and Mrs, El­ don Young visited their aunt, Mrs. Ida Campbell in Str throy, on Sunday, Mrs, Campbell is in her own home after spending several weeks as a patient in the Strathroy Hospital. Mr, and Mrs. Bill Downing, Karen and Joan of Chatham spent the weeekend with Mr. and Mrs. Aimer Hendrie, Mr, Downing had the misfortune to break his left arm. a week ago. Mr, and Mrs. H. Wainwright have purchased the property in the village from Mr. Carrothers and have taken up residence. Mr. and Mrs. Carrothers moved to Biddulph township... Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Hodgins, Mrs.. Ladies' Guild The Ladies’ Guild of Holy Trin­ ity Church held their May meet­ ing in the Parish Hall last Mon­ day night with the, president, Mrs. Harvey Hodgins, in the chair and Mrs. Cecil Hodgin’s group as hostesses. Most of the evening was spent in completing and hanging of the new Parish Hall drapes. It was decided, in place-of a strawberry social this- year, to canvass- the members for a do­ nation. Walker, 84, the last surviving member of Alberta’s first legislature died in Vancouv­ er Hospital May 29. Mr, Walker, elected in 1905, was a guest at Alberta’s golden jubilee celebra­ tion in Edmonton last year, A i Liberal, he represented Fort i'Saskatchewan for 16 years. He was the first Liberal whip in Alberta. He and his wife Emily moved to West Vancouver in 1947. She died two years ago. Mr. Walker was born in Lucan and is surviv- [ ed by one brother of Gresham, Ore.
