Cancer Head
In keeping with a recently
established policy of decentral
ization, 'the formation of a Branch
of the' Cancer Society for Lucan
and vicinity (brings to a total of
10 the number of such branches established Im Middlesex ‘County
since the first of the year. Simi-
■lar branches have been estab
lished in Lambeth, Byron, Dor
chester, Thorndale, Glencoe, Mt.
Bryd-ges, Parkhill, Uderton and
Strathroy. Mr, M. H. Hodgins
has agreed to accept the office
of 'president for the coming year and other officers who have
volunteered to serve are Mrs. A.
E. 'Reilly, vice-president; Mr.
William McGrigor, secretary
treasurer; Mrs. Art Black, edu
cational committee; Mrs. Mel
Culfoert, welfare committee; Mr.
Cecil Lewis, campaign committee.
These officers, -along with the
officers of all other Middlesex
branches, were recently guests of
Mr. R. W. Robertson, president
of the London and Middlesex
Branch of the Canadian Cancer
iSociety, at a dinner in the Lon
don "Y”. At this meeting Dr. R.
W. Begg of Western University
gave an interesting address about
ithe progress of cancer research
down through the years and
about what is being done at the
present time. There were also
forum discussions at which the
various committee chairmen re
ceived much valuable informa
tion. It was also there decided
that the territory which would
be allotted to the ’Lucan Branch
would foe ‘all of Biddulph Town
ship, McGillivray Township east
of the fourth concession and
London Township from the fif
teenth concession north,
In view of the lateness of its
organization* it has been decided
■to attempt no house-to-house
canvas for funds this year since
■the National campaign concludes
at the end of April. The commit
tee, however, intends to make an
appeal for 'assistance through
other existing organizations and
requests that donations either be
handed • to any member of the
above committee or sent direct to
Box 32, London. Although the
active campaign for funds con
cludes at the end of April, the
committee has made it. known
that in matters of welfare and
education it will be available for
advice and assistance at any
time during the -year.
