In spite of the. disastrous fin ish of the club, Mohawk net- minder Gar Baker managed to hang onto the -lead in the goalies’ race thanks to the big -margin he established earlier in the sea son. He takes the Smith trophy away from Gerry Hesse of Gode rich who has won it for -two seasons. The Exeter barber’s cup is awarded to the goaltender who plays the most number of games with the club which has the least goals scored against it. Mohawks finished the season with a goals- aigainst mark of 137, nine better than Milverton’s 146. *’ Baker had the best personal a,verage, besides the best team average. His -record .. was 4.22 goals a game, Compared to Har vey Jessiman’s 4.25. Emins Top Scorer It will be no news -to anyone1 that Don Emms * officially won .the Major Group scoring race. The race has never been in doubt since mid-way through the sched ule wihen Emms established a big lead. The clever playmaker was the only man in the group to pick up 100 points. He scored 3 5 goals and assisted on 66 others, most of them by his linemate Junior Barash. Barash topped the group in markers with 51; Larry Heide- man was right behind him with 50. ‘Mohawks Heidemian, Loader, Oberle and Gravett placed next to Strathroy leaders in the scor ing race. An end-of-season spurt helped Larry -to catch up to pass his teammates. Bill' McDonald was tops Goderich; Junior Dares for verton Forest. ■in the to go in WOAA competition. Haddon with 41 and 37 .points respectively. Earl Barton finished the sea son with the most minutes in the penalty box, He was followed closely by Don Fulton, of Strath- and Ollie Haddon Top scoring defencemen league were Thiel and Braves Show Former Form Despite the fact that -they lost 4.-4, Exeter Mohawk-s’ showing against Milverton Royals in the final game of the schedule here Friday night gave promise of a return .to form. Mohawks’ revamped front line of Loader, Oberle and Trendell worked (together for the first -time iand -the results were im pressive. This unit accounted for all of Exeter’s four goals—Tren- dell bagging -three and Oberle one. The junior line, which has car ried the brunt of the attack in recent weeks, was handicapped by the absence of -injured ace, Larry Heideman. if Larry had been around to give Mohawks their two strong units of old, the score would have been different. Royals were determined to catch Strathroy Rockets in sec ond place and they showed it on the ice. They worked hard for their Victory. Larry 'McCallum and Gerry McMillan started it off for Mil verton with two quick goals in the first period. McCallum scored from Ross Kipfer after a scramble around the net at 3.48 and Mc Millan sunk a pass from Junior Dares at’ 4.18. Dares put the visitors three up iii the last min ute of the period when he scored on a play with Stetson. Mohawks started fighting back in the second. Trendell scored his first goal tut 3.86 when he sunk a Loader pass just after a face off, At 4,47 Trend ell counted his Second when he, Loader and Oberle sailed In together for a kill. After a parade of penalties, Murray Noble Scored at 13.13 on a passing play with Tomiuk and McCallum.
