PHONE 109 Tribe Has To Win Friday Or Could Lose Group Title fI s £ s Four Great Names McCLARY, INTERNATIONAL# LINCOLN" EMCO "A M.I.L.E, Of Heating Satisfaction" Mohawks must jump out of their rut Friday night or they’re going to let the group title slip 'through, their skates. The Tribe meets Forest Lake sides in the local emporium to morrow night in, an important four-point contest, A victory would put Mohawks within a game of clinching the group honor—a loss would mean they would 'be forced to win their last three games against Milverton, Goderich and Strathroy, a moun tainous task. Here’s how the race stands; If the burning rockets win their last two contests against Milver ton and Exeter, tihey'll wind up with 39 points on a 13-11-3 re cord. Mohawks, with 34 points, have to add six more to ensure the title. The Tribe’s slump has passed the serious stage—it’s in the dis aster category now, Offensively they can't get the puck in-the net and defensively, they’re loose and ragged. The braves are go ing through the motions but they seem to lack the spark which scores goals 'and games. Against both Strathroy and Goderich this past week, hawks flu'bbed scores of oppor tunities ‘to sink the rubber. A^ain and again they made op posing netminders look sensa tional by missing the opening and hitting their pads. Defensively, Gar Baker seems to have lost his sharp eye and stalwarts Barton and Dwyer are not breaking up the plays like they used to. Part of Mohawks’ trouble, of course, has ’been the constant change in personnel. ;So under staffed they can’t afford to lose any man from the roster—(Mo hawks found the going rough this week without the services of Ted Bogal, who was declared in eligible by.the WOAA; Earl Bar ton, who sat out Friday’s con test with a bad shoulder; Bill Oberle, who missed the Strathroy match with sickness; and (Doug Smith, who was away for both matches. In addition, the club has been trying out 'Jack McIntyre and Bud Clark, two new recruits who recently moved to this area. Both boys showed possibilties but need time to fit into the patterns. Strathroy’s phenomenal Roc kets are sizzling. - Besides scalp ing Mohawks 8-2 Tuesday night, the Rockets humbled Milverton Royals 11-2 Saturday. In their last six wins, the Strathroy club ,has scored 53 goals (averaging nearly nine a game) and allowed only 16. The Rockets haven’t lost a game since lanky Harvey Jessiman returned to. the pipes. •wins Mo- Barash Stars For Rockets Junior Barash, whose greatest pleasure in life is io beat Exeter, set the stage for tfih Rockets’ win Tuesday night with two first period goals. He opened the scoring with a brace of markers early in the opening frame and he finished the game with the final counter in the last minute of .play. Don Emms, of course, added his usual pile of points to his al ready impressive total. He scored one goal and picked up five as sists to put him within two points of 100 for the season. Big Don Fulton scored for Strathroy, too; but not with the puck.' He handed out two of tihe most gizzard - shattering body- checks Mohawks have seen this season, He laid Larry I-Ieidemian flat in the third period and knocked 'Clark for a loop in the second. Although he covered a lot of ice to reach both men, the officials ruled the checks legal. Barash’s two goals in. the opening period appeared easy ones. The first he scored on a shot from the boards which caught the upper corner. To pot the second, he came out from behind the net and backhanded the rubber past Baker. When Beckets were short- handed mid-way through the game, Mohawks threw everything at Jessiman but the former ,pro net-minder pitched it right back. He robbed Red Loader and Clarlc on two breakaways. ■Larry Heideman made it 2-1 at 5.25 of the second when he deflected Bill Wharnsby’',s corner shot into the rigging. Gian Wiese received an assist on the ©lay. Don Mayes scored Strathroy’s lone marker of the second period when his shot glanced off Bar ton’s stick into the high, corner of the net. Mayes potted Emms’ rehound early in the third period to open up a five-goal Strathroy splurge. Bay Yelle, Don Bjnms and Bar ash scored on breakaways and Bill JJamport potted a blueline shot. Clark scored Exeter’s second goal when he deflected Jack Dwyer’s slap shot intp the twine. The crowd •— over 700 — was Strathroy’s biggest of the year. Homebrews Best In Goderich Win Gord Walters and Bill Mac- iDonald were 'the stars in Gode rich Sailors’ 7-3 win over Mo hawks Friday -night. Both home brew players scored twice to lead the Goderich attack. Mohawks matched the lakeport crew 1-1 in the first period but the Bailors .scored three un answered tallies in the second. The winners outscored Mohawks 3-2 in the third. Larry Heideman figured in all three Mohawks’ goals. He potted two himself and assisted on Bill Wharnsiby’s marker. With Barton and Smith away, Loader dropped back on defence leaving Bill Oberle the only regular on the front line. He played with McIntyre and Bay Richards- Jack Meriam, Ted Williams and Tex McPherson scored singles for ~ ■Goderich. WOAA .'President Nelson Hill, who conducted the protest ing, brought the question up be fore the OHA executive over the weekend and the Ontario body is reported to have agreed to abide by any decision the WOAA might make. * The WOAA officials declared Bogal ineligible because he .play ed four games with a Senior “B” team, London Briggs, this year. As a replacement for Harry Mc Ewan, Bogal was supposed to be a player of Int. “A” calibre or lower. Mohawk officials have pressed for the replacement, stating they hear- he'ar- signed Bogal in good faith and with permission of both the WO AA and OHA. They believe they need a replacement to continue in the league. Bogal was thrown out follow ing a complaint from Forest Lakesides who produced evidence the London player had been in Briggs’ lineup four games.
