The organ­ ist and choir master is Mr. Ken Clark; Hardy; Coursey assistant, Mrs. Clarence president, Mrs. Irene ; vice-president, Frank Hovey; secretary-treasurer, Miss Marion Ashworth; librarian, Mrs. Cecil Lewis; social convener, Miss Delrene Coursey. Junior Choir Party Some months ago Mrs. Clar­ ence Hardy 'and her assistant, Mrs. Ervin Scott, divided the members of Holy Trinity Junior Choir into two groups by draw­ ing names from a hat. Captains were Rose Wilkinson and David Fenn. Since then their merit marks have been given for regu­ larity, punctuality and co-opera­ tion, with the understanding the losing group was to provide a dinner party. The former group lost. Men’s Club Officers Mr. Alex Young was elected president of the Lucan Men’s Club with vice-president, Mr. T. S. Hill; secretary-treasurer, Mr. Murray Hodgins. _ Group McComb, and Mr. Personal Mr. and Mrs. of London, were last Wednesday. Mrs. Hodgins is an aunt of Mrs. Prest. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Mrs. Ern­ est Lewis presided, and Group 'One made further plans for the coming euchre party, and the birthday box was approved for anothei’ year. An additional prize was approved for the Club girls who achieve the twelfth Home­ making Unit. Mrs. James Paton presented an interesting paper on Agriculture and Canadian Industries, citing activities at the Dow .plant at Sarnia, and giving a review of Agriculture for 1955 and a look at the prospects for 195 6 as seen through the eyes of our agricul­ tural representative. The program Committee, Mrs. Cecil Carter, Mrs. Alex Macin­ tosh and Mrs. Wilmer Scott, were quite entertaining, first with an amusing reading about old-time school teachers and their exper­ iences in rural communities; next ■a sing song, followed by an im­ aginary shopping trip, in which the members .participated, amidst much laughter. Guessing the number of candies in a jar was won by Mrs. David Henry. Fol­ lowing a reading, Mrs. Rae Neil, ■resolutions convenor, 'presented her report, bringing to the fore, current items worthy of earnest thought and consideration. Personal Items Mr. C. C. Mrs. W. Brownlee 99 Years Young Mrs. William Brownlee, Sr., celebrated her ninety-ninth birth­ day at Lambert Lodge, Toronto, January 15. She was the former Jane Anne Hodgins and was born just north of Lucan on the farm occupied by Mr.. Cecil Hodgins and family. She ‘ lived most of her married life one and a half miles south of the village. Of a family of five girls and one boy, only three are living, Mrs. Percy Ryan (Ava), of Van­ couver; Mrs. E. McEwan (Myrtle) of Toronto, and William, Lucan. Her husband predeceased her some years ago. She wheels herself around the hospital and is a favourite with doctors and nurses. Her son and family from Lucan and daughter from Toronto each took her a birthday cake which she shared with her many callers. Recent guests with Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Smith included Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Sawyer of Pet­ rolia, Mr. and Mrs. George Lachie and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lachie of Waterloo and Mr. Rod Smith. .■ . . Mrs. H. On Wednesday, Janu­ ary 11, at Watford, they were defeated 6-3 by the Watford team. On Friday night, January 13 (whether a Friday-the-13th was responsible or not), the Mit­ chell Red Devils defeated them 5-2. Personal Items Mrs. T. C. McFarlane 'had the misfortune to fall on her icy steps last Monday. Though no bones -are broken, she will be confined to her home for a couple of weeks at least. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Coursey are ■happy to announce the birth of another daughter, Ruth Alice; a sister for Linda and Rose, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, January 11. Mrs. Mitchell Haskett has a beautiful Christmas cactus which had over 30 blooms. There are still a few blooms and buds. Mr. Alf Dickins, who under­ went an operation in Victoria Hospital, had a set-back which necessitated a second operation. For a few days he was seriously ill, but is now slowly recuperat­ ing. Mr. and Mrs. M, O. Smith have returned from a trip to Buffalo where they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earle Burt. Prest New Rector Last Wednesday, in the pres­ ence of a large congregation, Rev, John Pervical Prest was in­ ducted as_ rector of Holy Trinity Church Church, deacon C. John-the-Evangelist Church, Lon­ don, (who spent his early in Lucan attending public high school here). Rev. M. H. H. Farr of Luka’s Church, Broughdale, chairman of D-B.R.E., was the guest speaker. He took as his text, “I will guide thee with mine eye,” Others assisting in the service were the former rector, Rev, J. F. Wagland, of St, ~ Martin's Church, Oakridge Acres; Rev. E, S. Wells, of St. John-the-Evan- gelist Church, Strathroy, Rural Dean of West Middlesex; Rev, L. H, Crawford, of St James’ Church, Parkhill, immediate past Rural Dean of Middlesex, and Rev. A. -H. Jared, of St. John’s Church, Arva, Bishop’s Domes­ tic Chaplain. Mr. Prest is the son of Mrs. V. N. Prest and the late Mr. Prest and was born in Kingsville. Before attending Huron College he spent 12 years with the Bank of Montreal and three years in a store at Harrietsville. He served a little over three years at Barrie, Kingarf and Kinlough as lay missionary, deacon in charge lastly as rector, before coming to Lucan on January 1. Mrs. Brest is the daughter of Canon H. B. Ashby, now in charge of Christ Church, Ayr, and also granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. L. of St. Marys. They children, 10-year-old six-year-old Harry. Lions Club News Mrs. Guy Ryan’s group of Anglican Guild catered for Lions Club dinner in the church basement last Monday night. There was no guest speaker but the new rector, Rev. spoke briefly to the Bridge Winners Mrs. Joe O’Neil George Hodgins were hostesses for the seven-table bridge in the Coursey School last Thursday night. Mrs. Charles Haggar and Mr. Harvey Hodgins won first prizes and Miss Louise Holmes ■and Mr. Stuart Thompson won second prizes. Teachers’ Meeting The staff of the Lucan Public ■School attended the January meeting of the Biddulph and North London Teachers’ Associa­ tion which was held in Birr Pub­ lic School last Tuesday afternoon.
