Diekins, and worthy patron, Mr. Maurice Quance presiding. It was decided to hold a pro­ gressive euchrft In the chapter Tooms on. February 10. Mrs, Allan Fraser gave an en­ lightening report of the work of the Cancer society and emphasiz­ ed the need for more members. Prize for high scores were won iby Mrs. Thomas Smith and Au­ brey Tennant while lone hand ■prizes went to Mrs. William Eth- erington and Gerald McFalls. Sims Reaches 92 At the ago. of 92, Mrs. Jonah Sims picks up the morning paper and reads the headlines without glasses and quizzes the other members of the household on the mews she has read in the paper. Mrs. Sims celebrated her birth­ day on-Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. L. Wilson, with whom she makes her home. Mi*s. Sims sews and knits and •is in good health. She was the former Eliza Brokenshire and has lived in this community all her life. She was born at Sharon and on .her marriage to Jonah Sims in 1888 they lived in or neai’ Crediton until retiring to Exeter 37 years ago. Mr. Sims .passed away in 1946. Mrs. Sims has two sons, Wil­ liam. and Ted. and one daughter, Mrs. "Wilson, all of Exeter; 11 grandchildren • and five great grandchildren. She has one broth­ er, Mark Brokenshire of Dash­ wood. Overseas Trip Related To Wl The citizenship and education committee with Mrs. Howard Johns as convener had charge of the program for the meeting of Eli'mville Women’s Institute on Wednesday evening. Mrs. Al­ vin Moir, guest speaker, told of her trip abroad and showed var­ ious souvenirs Which she brought (home with her. She spoke at two Institute meetings she attended while away. Mrs. Harold Hunter gave a talk on Canada and the United 'Nations. The roll call was an­ swered by naming a Canadian woman of renown and why. Miss Ruth Skinner, president, conducted the business. The treas­ urer’s report was given by Mrs. Ward iHern. Mrs. Harold Hunter presented the hospital auxiliary report. Lunch was served by Mrs. Colin Gilfillan and her commit­ tee. A bake sale at the close of the meeting netted $8.80 for the em­ ergency fund. Mrs. Sanders was assisted by Mrs. Arnold Linden­ field in conducting the devotion­ al period.. Mrs. Gordon Koch reviewed the study book chapter on the Canadian Indians, dealing with their schools, their education, their medical services from the government and their religion. Mrs. Ken Ottewell contributed a piano instrumental, The new president, Mrs. Mer- vyn Cudmore, conducted the bus­ iness when it was decided to cater to the Junior Institute mother and daughter banquet in Febru­ ary. It was voted to entertain the Woman’s Association to a pot-luck supper at the Federa­ tion’s February meeting. The bassinette is thermostatically controlled to maintain proper temperature of the child after it is born. The demonstration above is provided by Paul William Idle, fifth son of A. B. Idle, principal of Exeter Public School and Mrs. Idle, a Rebekah. Potato Cheese Souffle (Mrs. George Hepburn) 1 cup grated cheese 2 cups mashed potatoes % cup milk 2 T.bsps. melted butter % tsp. salt - % tsp. pepper % 'tsp. mustard 2 eggs. Mix grated cheese with toes blending thoroughly, milk, melted butter and until pota- Add seas­ onings. Beat until smooth. Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon Colored and add to mix­ ture. Fold in beaten egg whites. We can’t help ’ wondering some­ times how many different kinds of cookies there are and who dreamed up some of the inter­ esting names they go by. The “jum'bles”’ we sampled at my sister’s last summer were made with black walnuts from a tree on their farm. It gave them a nice flavor but any kind of nuts, including .peanuts,- could be used. Jubilee Jumbles % cup shortening JL cup brown sugar white sugar% cup 2 eggs i cup •y2 tsp. 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla 2 % cup sifted flour 1 cup chopped nut meats. Mix in usual way. Drop by spoonful onto greased pan.
