and gave Constable John Cowan
a description of the car but did
not know the licence number.
The c o n s t a-b 1 e testified he
found a’ car with a broken tail
light and other damage parked
at the /Colonial Inn, Exeter, and
located owner A'tkin, who was
addressing Exeter Lions during
a dinner meeting.
There was no evidence (to con
nect ithe damaged tail light with
the other car, the magistrate
ruled.
Elmei’ D. (Bell, QC, who de
fended the accused, said it might
have been possible his client hit
the car without knowing at. He
had a number of tools in the
trunk, he said, which made con
siderable noise when 'backing up.

The bonfire, marking the
end of Christmas festivities,
features the burning of a huge
pile of Christmas trees. Mem
bers of the club will collect
the trees from in front of town
houses on Wednesday, January
4.
“Twelfth Night” celebrations
are popular in England and
other European countries and
their debut to Ontario was in
augurated at Orillia four years
ago. The custom began in med
ieval days.

will be held on the river flats
of the farm owned by G. J.

will supervise the blaze.
