Honor Guides At Ceremony A Flying-Up ceremony and badge presentation was held at the Girl Guide meeting on Thurs­ day night at the Scout Hall. This marked the first meeting held in the new (Scout Hall for the Brow­ nie Pack and Guide Company, Margaret -Howie received her “Wings” and ’ fleW up to the Guide Company hnd was met by hen n«w Eutrol Second, (Carol Gibbons. 'Dianne Whitmore and Linda john&ton “walked” up to the Guide Company, These cere­ monies were conducted by Dis-* trict Commissioner, Lauretta Seigner and Brown Owl, Norma -Keller, The following Guides received proficiency badges from Miss Seig­ ner:—Mli n s t re I, Sandra Wal- per; hostess, Sandra Walper, Marg Francois, and Roxanne Beavers-: (Campers, (Marg Sanders needlewoman’s, Alice Car-ter. Cooks badges Were presented to Marg Francois, Sandra Wal­ per, iRoxanne Beavers, Louise Hockey, Dianne Ryckman and Sheila ’Ford ,by Lieutenant Rena •Murray. Captain (Luxton installed Lou­ ise 'Hockey as Patrol Leader of -tli-e Scarlet Tanager Patrol; and Carol Gibbons as Patrol Second, Donna Bridges became Oriole Patrol Second. Highlight of -the evenings was the presentation of -the First Class ’Badge to 'Alice C'anter by Miss Seigner. Alice is the fifth Guide to earn her First Class badge in -the .past five years. -In the ten years’ history of the movement in Exeter -the records show only two other recipients of this badge, -Helen Sweet a for­ mer Captain and Mrs. Luxton. . -Games and Campfire followed at which a letter was read from our International Pen-Pal-Link, the 10 th iSt, James Exeter, Eng­ land Co, Plans were made for the Christ­ mas party and Commissioner Salute. Named Village Trustee, Roland L Motz Dies (Roland L. Motz, 59, former (Exeter merchant and long-time trustee of the village of Crediton, died suddenly -at his home In Cre-. diton East Thursday evening. A veteran, of two world wans,' -Mr. Mot?> was re-elected recently as Crediton trustee tor 19*56. He served for -many years on the vil­ lage board. He was a son of the late Henry; and Mrs. (Mots of Crediiton and in his teens he -moved to Mel-’ tort, (Sask, -where he 'was in (busi­ ness until ‘he enlisted in the Roy-' al Canadian Navy in -the First World War. Twenty five years ago he took up residence in Ex­ eter iwhere he operated a grocery store on the corner of John and Main Streets. (She was the former Elizabeth Lamport of iCrediton .and lived in London some years before re­ siding in Exeter, 'She had re­ sided -of late years with Mrs. Frank Coates and was a member of James St. United Church. - -Her (husband predeceased lier several -years and -one son, James Russell was» killed in action over­ seas in World War ill. - Surviving are one daughter, Vera, 'Mrs. Charles Barnes of Montreal; one son, Gordon, in Lethbridge Alberta; -three sisters, Mrs. Emma iMcLeod, 'Calgary, Mrs. Cora McKitterick Toronto and Mrs. Herb dark, Browns­ ville, Alta; two brothers, Wes Lamport, Exeter and Charles Lamport, Squamisji B.C. Heartherly and Mrs, Frank Scheidi-iig -both of London and three grandchildren, A funeral service was -conduc­ ted on (Sunday -evening by the Exeter .Canadian (Legion ©ranch at the Hopper-Hookey -funeral home and a public service on Monday by (Rev. A, ’Rapson -with interment .in -Exeter cemetery. Mark Anniversary At Mitchell Dinner Mr. and Mrs. John Luxton of town were pleasantly w-prlsed when they arrived, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Luxton of Mitchell on Saturday evening to find their family gathered to, celebrate with them their for­ tieth wedding anniversary. After a turkey dinner Mr. and Mrs. Luxton were -made recipients of a gift Of money by the family. Recit­ ations were given by Beginners, Primary and Junior classes, -an exercise “Bethlehem iStar” ,by Intermediates and “Sweet Christ-' mas Memories0 was enacted by the youth’s Class. - White -Gifts* Were presented and a cantata followed, entitled, “Worship "at the manger” after which gifts were distributed. Christmas service was held in the United Church Sunday morn­ ing, Rev. -Rapson delivered the third in a series -of sermons, “The Gift .of Fellowship” and admin­ istered -the Sacrament of Bap­ tism to Margaret Anne Kes tie,, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Kestle, and to Wendy Margaret Clark, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Clark. ■ Flowers were placed in the church, in memory of the late Mr'. Roland Motz and two sons, (Bartie and Robert. Personal Items Mr. Jos. Woodall has received word -of the death of his niece, Mrs. Louis (Irbne) Gordon who died suddenly at her home in Detroit. Mrs. Gordon was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Tucker of Detroit, and had, fre­ quently visited with relatives and friends in Crediton and Exeter, accompanied by* her mother, the former Flora Sims. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Morlock ■and Mr. and Mrs. Irvine Fink­ beiner -attended -the Christmas (concert and 0®en House last week, at London Teacher’s Col­ lege, where Donald Finkbeiner is enrolled as a .student. The .pre­ vious week Donald was practice teaching at (S.S. No. 6 Khiva. Mr, and Mrs. Everet Fahrner and Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Fahrner and Mrs. Roy Finkbeiner visited recently with Mr. Ervin Fahrner in Kitchener Hospital, where he has been seriously ill but is some­ what improved. Mr. -and .Mrs. Lewis Faist and sons, Gregory and Randy, of (St. Thomas visited on Sunday with -Mrs. M. Faist. Mr. and Mrs. William Oest- rieher spent the weekend in Windsor. 'Mr. and Mrs. -Ed.
