SAFE-BUY CARS Treat Kids At Hensail The annual Christmas for the children of Hensail and community was held .Saturday af­ ternoon sponsored by the Cham­ ber of Commerce and Hensail Legion, with projector courtesy of Kinsmen Club. .Santa, per* trayed by 'Councillor Harry Hoy, arrived in front of the town ball in the fire truck and was received by town officials. Four hundred and fifty bags of candy and treats were distri­ buted, and Jour hundred and twenty bottles of chocolate milk, donated by Mr. Ron Mock, Pro* prietor of Ilurondale Diary here was .given out, Films in charge of Flt(-:Sgt. L. Tiberio, a member of the Kinsmen Club, was shown later in the town hall. Kinsmen Club Sponsor Film The Kinsmen Club sponsored .a picture show in the town hall Saturday night presenting a film. “iS n o w w h it e and the Seven Dwarfs”. In a draw which was held for a Krohler 'Rest rocker with foot stool Flt/Sgt. Bill Wade, of R.C.A.F. Station, Cen­ tralia, was the lucky winner, Lucky ticket was sold by Flt/Sgt. <L. Tiberio of the station, who sold over thirty books, with past president Dr. D. J, McKelvie making the draw; Mrs, Robert Smith of Strathroy won -the tur­ key drawn by Ross Jinks, of the Ways and Means committee. Mrs, Morley Cooper of Kippen won the electric mixer in a draw at Drysdale’s hardware Saturday night Mrs. 'Ross Broadfoot, drew the winning -ticket. Young People Name Conveners The Young People’s meeting convened in the United Church with Marilyn Eyre conducting the worship assisted by Maja Roobol and Miss June Ross, Rev. C. D. Daniel presented a short Bible study. United xliurch At the United Church the Sun­ day School held a special white ■gift service. Charles Mickle read sacred passages and. Mrs. Robert Cook told the Christmas story. The Nativity Scene was. enacted with Carolyn Smillie singing. Over $55.00 was contributed. Rev. Daniel for his morning theme spoke on the subject “Just Before Christmas,” A trio com­ posed of Mary Ann Van-home, Dianne arid Mary Ann Rannie, rendered a number, and a solo [was contributed by ,S. G. Rannie. i At the evening service the i choir under direction of .S. Ran­ nie with Miss Greta Lammie at the organ consol .presented a mus­ ical Christmas Cantata, “Chimes of the Holy ight.” Soloists were Mary Ann Rannie, Miss Mary Goodwin, Mrs, Pearl Passmore, Mrs. H. McEwan,, Dr. D, J. Mc- Kelvie, H. W. Horton with light­ ing in charge of Milton Lavery. During intermission the Church’s White Gift service was observed, when over $400, which included the Sunday School do­ nation, was be spent on Children of decorations members of iary. Cannel Presbyterian Special 'Christmas services were observed in Carmel Presbyterian church, Rev. D° MacDonald for his morning subject based his thought on the theme “Christ’s Coming-“A fulfilment of proplie- cy and of men’s hopes”. Mrs. Wm. Brown contributed a solo. The evening service featured the Sunday School Christmas con­ cert, Rev. D. MacDonald was chairman and extended words of welcome. Numbers included Wei come-® illy McKinnon, Christ­ mas Bells Mrs, Mousseau’s class; Christmas Lullaby, Junior Girls; “Un a Stable” Mrs. Brown’s class; Q u a r tet t e, “iS i -1 e n t Night”; “Christmas ’Light” "Mrs. Hyde’s class; Mission Band, “We love the Lord Jesus” and “Christmas Tree Story”, Mrs. Hoy’s class; “Away in a manger” and closing number by Cheryl Little. At the conclusion of the ser­ vice candy and gifts were distri­ buted to the children in the church schoolroom. The choir were entertained at the home of Mr,’and Mrs. R. J.’Cameron fol­ lowing the service. Chiselhurst United Chiselhurst United Church ob­ served White Gift (Service Sun­ day afternoon. Scripture passages were read by Jimmy Hamilton and Wayne Coleman. A sextette composed of Geraldine Parker, Fay and June Ross, Mary Loti- McLellan, “Marilyn Eyre, Maja Roobol sang “O litte town of Bethleham”. Mrs. Harold Parker dedicated the gifts. Mrs. R. Boyce told children’s story, Miss Fay Ross sang and Rev* Daniel spoke on the origin of white gifts. Mr* Benson 'Stoneman accompanied at the piano for the service. I’nited Christmas Tarty Hensail United Church .Sunday (School in festive decorations en­ hanced with a Christmas tree was the setting Friday evening for the annual Christmas party of the Sunday .School. Rev. C. D, Daniel; acted as chairman for the varied program prepared by the super­ intendent of the Sunday Sihool, Mr. Dave Kyle, and the .teachers, 'Bobby Mickle gave the wel­ come address, recitations were given by Brenda Noakes, Sandia iRieliardson, Gary Kyle, 'Suzanne Kyle, John Goddard, Ann McKel- vle, Flora Lee Johnson, Linda Faber, Grant Walker, Marlene Dignan, Jerry Chapman, Betty Walker. R. Whittaker. The wel­ come for Santa Claus was .given by Jerry McClinchey. Exercises were given by the intermediate classes and duetts by Nancy Kyle and Susanne Rannie; Kathryn Rozell and Elaine Keys; Connie Rumple and Mary Haun; solos, . Joyce Flynn, Sharon and Joyce , Whittaker, Ann Mickle; Piano solos, Audrey Richardson, Nelson McClinchey; trio, Gwen Spencer, Jane Horton, Charles Mickle; duett, Jddy and Sharon Elder; The closing number was an exercise “The day of Gifts” depic- i ting the Nativity Scene, by the ' intermediate and senior girls. Santa Clans appeared and pre­ sented the children with treats. Gingerbread Home Built Have you seen the Gingerbread House in Beaton’s .Bakery win­ dow? This house was made by Mr. Beverley Beaton, local baker, and donated to the C.P. and T. fund of the local LO.C.F, and Rebekah Lodges. It is a fine specimen of workmanship, and will be given to the holder of the lucky ticket to be drawn on Christmas Eve at the hake shop. All proceeds are to be used for welfare work in the district. Chiselhurst SS Appoint Officers The Sunday School supper of Chiselhurst United Church was held on Tuesday evening. Rev. C. D, Daniel presented a film, “The Other Wise Man”. Faye and June Ross and Jimmy Ham­ ilton contributed piano numbers and Patricia Harris and Bobby Munn gave recitations. Dorothy Parker favored with a solo, ac­ companied by her sister, Gerald­ ine. Bobby Munn also sang. Rev. Daniel presided for the election of officers for the Sun­ day School. Mrs. J. T. Mitchell, of Hen­ sall.Mr. Mitchell, 84, in February, and Mrs. Mitchell, the former Elizabeth Rice, 85 in March, were married at the home • of the bride’s parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Jenin Rice of Hibbert. Fol­ lowing their marriage they lived in Tuckersmith where Mr, Mitch­ ell farmed, retiring to Hensall twenty six years ago. Their mar­ riage was solemnized on Decem­ ber 23rd sixty years ago but the event will be celebrated Christ­ mas day. They recall while driv­ ing with a horse _and buggy to take the L_‘._ __ tonto to spend their honeymoon that the farmers very busy on the land ploughing, They both _____ Hensall United Church. Mitchell is not enjoying the best of health, but Mr, Mitchell goes up town every day to do the fam­ ily shopping and get the mail. They have a family of three daughters, Mrs. Carl Stoneman, Mrs. Melville Traquair, Mrs. Jar­ vis Horton, Hensall, and one son Stanley, Tuckersmith, seven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Children Guests Of Kippen Wl Pre-school children Were spec­ ial guests of Kippen East Wo­ men’s institute at their annual Christmas meeting held at the home of Mrs. Ivan Forsyth on Wednesday. Mrs. Robert Gem­ mell was co-hostess. Over sixty members and children were pre­ sent. The roll call was answered by “Some good thing about the lady on your left”. Mrs. J. McLellan commented on the motto, “Re­ ligion and Life”, Mrs, William Bell told a Christmas story and Mrs, E. Whitehouse reviewed current events, Mrs. J. Hender­ son reported on the vention. Donald MacDonald of Carmel Presbyterian Church at the Christmas meeting of the Hensail Women’s Institute on Wednesday evening. “If He had- not come our outlook would be the same as those who, as yet, have not heard the good news,” said the speaker. (Carol singing, led by Miss ■Greta Lammie and accompanied by Mrs. W. Brown, was enjoyed. Mrs. J. Goddard and Mrs. R. Pryde played a piano duet of carol medleys and Mrs'. E. Rowe contributed a reading. A film entitled “The Night Be­ fore Christmas,” showing the 'Santa Claus parade in Toronto, was shown by Mr. Jack Drys­ dale. The roll call was answered by a donation for the War Memorial Hospital, London. The conveners of the program were Mrs. N. Cook and Mrs. J, Goddard. The hostesses were Mrs. G. .Arm­ strong and Mrs. W.
