Donates Gifts To Child Hospital The December meeting of the Lucan W.l. was held in the Anglican Parish Hall last Thurs­ day afternoon with the presi­ dent, Mrs. Frank Hardy, in the chair and Mrs. Erwin Scott at the piano. Mrs. -Sheridan Beving­ ton, Mrs. T. A. Hodgins,, Mrs. C. W. Porter, Miss Gora Neil, Mrs. N. Wasnidge, Mrs. Frank Hovey and Miss Doris Weir were hos­ tesses- Roll Call was answered by a White Gift for the Child­ ren’s Wai' Memorial Hospital. The treasurer reported that the recent bake sale netted $3 2.- 12. Mrs. George Wilson will be the delegate to go to Ceylon. The president asked all to save stamps from, their Christ­ mas mail and bring them to the next meeting. Mrs. Gordon Ban­ ting and Mrs. Erwin Scott dis­ played articles for the children of Greece and distributed pat­ terns for underwear and mitts. Mrs. Warner sented to take Bruce’s office of Education. The highlight program touching was so well read. This was fol­ lowed by Christmas carols led by Mrs. R. Hamilton. Explorers Owing to the Men’s Club meeting in the United Church, the Lucan-Clandeboye Explorers had to hold their meeting in the Anglican Parish Hall last Wed­ nesday evening. Of the 27 mem­ bers, 26 were present. The worship service was in charge of Counsellor Kae Has­ kett. Counsellor Iva ‘Hodgins had charge of the practice on carols for the shut-ins. A Christmas story from the Study Book was begun, also the making of wishbone Christmas pins. Personal Items The children of S.S. No. 2 Biddulph presented their Christ­ mas entertainment at the school last Monday. Mr. H. E. Lankin has been on the sick list and is confined to his home. Mrs. Cap Howard has again been taken back to St. Joseph’s Hospital. iLewis Bros, have completed a 35’x35’ garage and tool shop for Mr. George Thomson. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kilmer have moved into the house re­ cently completed on Lewis street •by Lewis Bros. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Smith were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Beau­ mont, of London,‘last Tuesday. Win Three Fowl held the for r Out The Lucan Lions Club was most unfortunate in the choice of night for the annual Turkey Bingo for Thursday night was the ,worst night of the year. Only a small crowd braved the bad roads and blustering storm, so most of the prizes were geese and chickens. Perhaps the hap­ piest and most excited person in* Stanley Hall Thursday night was nine-year-old Roger Black, son of Mr. and Mrs. Art Black, who won not one but two geese. Later on his father won a chicken— and -the family are invited out for both Christmas and New Years—but such is Bingo. Turkey winners were Mr. Frank Hicks, Centralia; Mr. J. Donaldson, Clandeboye; and Mr. Joe Haskett, Lucan. Other geese winners were Mr. Harold Butler, Mrs. Harry Arnold, Mrs. Harold Whyte and Miss Lina Abbott. Other chicken winners were Mrs. Joe Casimir, Mrs. N. O’Brien, Mr, Harvey Hodgins, Mrs. Les Woodward, Mrs. A, . E. Reilly, Mrs. George Strasser and Mr, Will McFalls, David Whyte drew W. H. Mor­ ris’ ticket for the large turkey draw. Mr. Morris, a bank in­ spector from Blenheim, bought his ticket from Mr. B. McGregor while at the Lucan Bank of Montreal recently. Begin Work On Race Barn Work on Lucan Turf Club’s racehorse barn has begun. It is expected most of the building will be erected by volunteer labour. Last week, Lewis Bros, over­ saw the installation of the foot­ ings. When weather conditions permit, work will continue. Al­ ready a number of have been received. In the evening they went to Lambeth to see the Christmas lighting display, orig­ inated by Mrs. Ruth Bacon, which has been receiving such publicity. Coursey School Euchre The Coursey Road members opened their winter activities with a euchre in the school with Mrs. Evan Hodgins and Mrs. Oscar Hodgins as hostesses. Prizes for high score went to both Mr. and Mrs. Joe O’Neil and second prizes went to Mrs. Har­ vey Hodgihs and Mr. Mac Mc­ Naughton. A. Bond. Hockey News ■Lucan hockey fans saw their Irish Six meet their Waterloo twice last week when they met up with- the Mitchell Bed Devils. Up until Tuesday night neither team had lost a game,, but in Mitchell that night, Lucan was defeated 5-3. Drive-In Restaurant Opens For many months the home of o/ the late Miss Kate Smith has been undergoing extensive re­ novations and alterations to con­ vert it into a drive-in restaurant, with modern apartment upstairs. They form­ erly lived on a farm west of Ailsa Craig on No. 7 Highway but now have retired. Mrs. .Bob /Cunningham has left to spend the winter with her daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Bell in Hamilton. Mrs, Leon McNaughton return­ ed home from the hospital but •her infant daughter, Dianne Eli­ zabeth is still a patient in St, Joseph’s Hospital. Mr. Charlie Edginton spent the .weekend with his daughter, and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Broughton in London, Mr. John Bollings isi a patient at the Nursing Homelin Exeter of Mrs. Heywood. He had been with his son, and daughter-in- law Mr, and.' Mrs. Orville Bol­ lings for a few months. Prior to ■that he made his home with Mr. and Mrs. iCharlie Rollings. Mrs, Arthur Hodgins has been spending a couple of weeks with her daughter, Mrs. Jim Cunning­ ham and family. Mr. and Mrs. Jack McEwen and Donald were .guests on .Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Ban­ ting in Lucan. Christmas Party The annual Sunday school par­ ty was held in the Sunday School room for the pupils. A short .pro­ gramme and games were enjoyed. Unloading of the tree of gifts and treats for each pupil follow­ ed, then >lunch was served. The three teachers Stanley Tomes, Mrs. Karl O’Neil and Mrs. Andy Carter.
