Christmas Meeting ■A gaily decorated Christmas tree, baskets of spruce boughs and Christmas ornaments made a colorful setting for the Dec­ ember meeting of the Women’s Association in the church last Wednesday afternoon. Mrs, L. Hodgson conducted a short business session. The roll call was answered with the pres­ entation of dime bags. Mrs. K. Greb presided for the program which opened with a piano selection of Christmas mel­ odies by Mrs. A. Essery. A candle lighting ceremony was conduct­ ed with Mrs. K. Greb, Mrs. M. El­ liott, Mrs. L. Hirtzel, Mrs. G. Hepburn and Miss F. Davey tak­ ing part. Mrs, J. Coates enter­ tained with an accordion and vocal solo. The scripture read­ ing was given by Mrs, Ralph Lightfoot; Mrs. Clarke offered (prayer; a solo was presented by Bobby Lammie, Mrs. Greb and a her by Mrs. L. R. Hodgson, Mrs. Mrs. W. Essery, Mrs, N. Knox guest speaker and Christmas she spent in Paris, France, as a newspaper colum­ nist. The C.G.I.T. will hold a Ves­ per service in the church on Sun­ day at 7.30 p.m. The newly or­ ganized group will appear for the first time in their uniforms. On Saturday of last week they spon­ sored a door to door cookie and candy sale. Personal Items Mr, Kenneth Hodgins who was confined to his home last week owing to illness was taken to Victoria Hospital, London, on Saturday for treatment, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lightfoot and Sharon were weekend guests with Mr, and Mrs, Lawrence Swartz in London. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Godbolt entertained their former neigh­ bours to a social evening at their new home in Exeter on Thurs­ day of last week. The Centralia Y.P.U. were guests of Thames Road Y.P.U. at a Sunday evening service and social hour Mr. and Mrs. Ray Shoebottom and family spent Sunday with relatives in London. The annual Sunday School Christmas entertainment will be held in the schoolroom of the church on Friday evening. Miss Margaret Clarke, who is on the nursing staff of the Strat­ ford General Hosital, spent a couple of days with her parents, Rev. J. Forty-five dolls, 71 stuffed animals, a large assortment of knit goods, mechanical and other toys and some donations of books were displayed. The majority of the dolls and toys were reconditioned to look like new. The local Boy Scouts helped in many cases with their handiwork. Over 50 guests attended the tea which was served on decorat­ ed tables by several members including Miss jardine, Mrs. .E. Finan, Elsie, Mrs. Bristow, Mrs. Mrs. W- Desjardine, Mrs. Statton and Mrs. Henry Green. Miss Mary Yeo and Mrs, Mac- Laren poured tea and Mrs, K- Young received the guests. The receipts for the evening totalled over $31 and will be used to buy gifts for the older children. The gifts were distri­ buted between the Salvation Army, London, the C a t h o 1 i c Orphanage at London and the Children’s Aid at Sarnia. Honored By Service Clubs On Thursday evening the Lions Club presented Mr. Alvin Bossenberry with a pair of gold engraved cuff links, after which the 'Legion entertained Mr. Boss­ enberry in the Legion rooms with a farewell party and pre­ sented him with an electric razor. Mr. Bossenberry is leaving this week to take up residence in Florida. W.M.S. And W.A. On Thursday W.M.'S, and W.A. Church held theii' mas meeting with ficers. The slate of officers for the W.M.'S. for the New Year is: President, Mrs. Wellwood Gill; vice-presidents, Mrs. E. Burr and Mrs. D. Gill; secretary, Mrs. A. Hamilton, assistant, Mrs. C. Reeves; treasurer, Mrs. A. Mill­ er; Mission Band superintendent, Mrs. H. Pfile, and Baby Band superintendent, Mrs. Allan Mill­ er. For the W.A. the new officers are; President, Mrs. Willis Gill; vice-presidents, Mrs. H. Devine and Mrs. T. Stanlake; secretary­ treasurer, Mrs. D. Hendrick. W.A. Guild 'Annual reports of all commit­ tees were given at the meeting of the W.A. Guild of St. John’s- by-the-Lake, Grand Bend held at the home of Mrs. Wm. Cochrane. Mrs. Geo. Anderson was ap­ pointed president for 1956 with Mrs. Wm. Cochrane as secretary and Mrs. Fred Newton as treasur­ er. Mrs. Morley Pinkney is hon­ orary president and Mrs. Wm. Rendle, Dorcas secretary. ‘Rev. Pinkney, rector of the church, conducted the election of officers. Presentation On Friday evening about 60 of the neighbours and friends on the Mollard Line and vicinity gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. 'Harold Walper to hold a surprise party for Mr. and Mrs. Wellwood Gill and Joan, who are moving into the village early in the New Year. The evening was spent playing crokinole and dif­ ferent games. After lunch .was served a little wagon, prettily decorated, was drawn into the living room by Susan Gill, Emerson Gill and Beverley Becker and after Mr. Allan Walper had read an ad dress Mr. and ' Mrs. Gill were presented with a pop-up toaster, a chrome teapot and chrome cof­ fee percolator, and Joan with a rhinestone pin and musical pow­ der box. Mr. and Mrs. Gill made suitable replies of thanks. Personal Items Miss .Betty Dalton, of London, spent the weekend at her borne in town. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Love, of Toronto, spent the weekend with Mr. 'Love’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Love. Mr. IP. Eisenbach was able to return to his home from St. Jo­ seph’s Hospital, London, this week and is reported to be some­ what improved. Wayne Desjardine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norris Desjardine, Underwent an operation for ap­ pendicitis in London last week. Mr. and Mrs. Kyle Kelly, of Detroit, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Harrison. Mr. William Sweitzer spent Monday in Blenheim on a busi­ ness trip. /<.. Reeve James Dalton spent last week at the County Council in Sarnia. Mrs. Dalton joined her husband on Friday evening for the warden’s banquet. The 'Ladies Auxiliary of the ■local Legion hold their annual banquet On Friday evening at ■the Brenner Hotel, The evening was spent playing euchre. Prizes were won by Mrs. T. Hopcroft; Mrs. Forrester, for lone hands, and Mrs. Burton Green, booby prize. The Sunday- School of the Church of God put on a very special Christmas concert Friday- evening.
