Heideman Sparks' Win Over Royals Larry Heideman, Mohawks’ shifty centre from Kitchener, gave his top .performance of the season Thursday night when Mo­ hawks edged Milverton J-2 in the northern arena. Heideman fired three of the locals’ total to boost bis goal production to five. Harry McEw­ an notched the other marker. Bill Wharnsby collected two as­ sists; Don Gravett and Bill Oberle one each. ■Mohawks ran up a. 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes, of the game and then coasted home. Don Heinbein, Milverton’s lead­ ing scorer, fired the first Royal tally at 14.42. When Larry McCallum narrow­ ed the margin to <3-2 in the third period, Heideman scored his third goal of the night to clinch the contest. Unusual feature of the officia­ ting was a double penalty to Bill Oberle. He received two minute^ for high-sticking and another two minutes for boarding on the same play. Glen Wiese received a 10- minute misconduct. The Sailors rapped in two goals midway through the sec­ ond period to spoil a 1-Q lead the tribe had established in the first stanza. Another goa| early jn the period put Mohawks two behind. The tribe, got ope of them back at 13.02 but an all-out attempt to notch the tying goal backfired in the f-lnaj minutes of the game When Billy MacDonald shot the puck from centre ice into the open pet vacated by Gar Baker It was the defencemen’s night for scaring with rearguards pot­ ting four of the six goals. The lopsided win* gave Rockets sweet revenge for the 1’2-3 loss they suffered from Mohawks in the opening game of the season. Injuries forced the locals to finish the game with only eight •men and a substitute goaltender. IDoug O’Brien, Ben Gignac and Don lHesse, who form the Flyers’ top forward line, scored two goals- each as did Frank E-lwood, the new addition to the team from Hensall. Raymie Wein pot­ ted a single counter. The Flyers took a 2-1 lead in the first period, enlarged it to 4-2 in the second and scored five tallies in the third. In other contests this season the Flyers lost 8-3 to Mitchell and 10-4 to Ilderton. Manager Ivan Yungblut says his team has been hampered by lack of prac­ tice but expects it to hit top stride soon. Zurich and Lucan will renew their traditional rivalry Friday •night in the Irish Arena. Wat- fdrd will be the Flyers’ oppon­ ents in their -second home game in Hensall Arena On Monday night.
