The powerhouse city team won their fourth WOAA Senior MB'* title by a 21-0 count in the first game of a triple-header in the J, w. Little Memorial Stadium beside U.W.O. Only consolation the South Huron team received from the contest was the tributes of the Champions who admitted the Panthers had given them their toughest battle this season. •Considering that St. Pat's rang up. a 40-0 exhibition victory over Woodstock, who won the Senior “A” title on ’Satui^ay, those tri butes carried some weight. South Huron went into the icontest badly handicapped by in juries to key players. Fullback and kicker Ted Smith was out with a sprained ankle; Captain Bob MacLaren sat on the bench with a shoulder separation; half backs 'Bill Lavender and Terry Wade had knee trouble and (Centre Bob Cbaffe nursed a bad ankle. Coach Glen Mickle had to patch up his club as best he could. With the help of numerous yardage penalties against Sarnia foi* roughing, ’Panthers held the Pats to a slim 1-0 margin in the first half. Actually the locals threatened a number of times early in the game and might have led with any success in kicking. Without the x-egular hooters, the Panthers lost many yards on kicks. South Huron’s line matched the vicious tackling of the Sarnia club and helped to keep the score down. Gerald Rannie, Jim Eth erington, Graham Farquhar anl Ted bTormington led charging. Panthers faded before the fury of the Sarnia attack in third quarter and contributed several fumbles to their cause. ■South Huron recovered two Sar nia bobbles in the third but couldn't get anywhere. Panthers reached the Purple Bowl for the first time this year by eliminating Wingham and Mitchell in sudden-death play offs. . the full the First SH Team To Reach Bowl By BILL LAVENDER Hi-Lights Reporter The High School football sea son is over for another year. While 'the South Huron Panthers didn’t bring home a championship they do deserve special credit for the effort they put into South Huron’s first football team to IWOSSA. Handicapped by injuries, the local gridders held a powerful Sarnia team to a 1-0 lead in the first half but couldn’t stop the attack in the second portion and the city club scored a 21-0 victory. South Huron’s hard-driving line, which received praise for its aggressiveness, is seen here preparing to stop a Sarnia play in the South Huron end.
