The streets boe been ripped up to prepare a new base for asphalt pavement. Progress of the road work was . reported to council at its meet­ ing Monday night. The actual paving will not be done until next year. Several ammonia gas explos­ ions, caused, by the bursting of a head gasket, damaged the com­ pressor in the plant on Saturday. Council was concerned that the plant be placed in working order quickly so that activities could .start in the arena. Sang- ster appeared as delegates from the Canadian Legion asking the council to defray the cost of the band for Remembrance Day. Council agreed. Permission was granted O. L. Switzer to operate- the White Rose Service Station at the cor­ ner of Queen and No. 4 ways, Five hundred feet of fence and 55 steel posts ordered. Reeve William Parke presided and all councillors were present. The meeting closed with Institute grace. the Exeter Library Presents Report Operating costs of Exeter Li­ brary amounted to over $2,000 during the past year, the annual report presented to council Mon­ day night shows. Expenses included: for books and magazines $500; librarian’s salary $600; assistant’s salary, $45; janitor’s salary $350;; sec­ retary’s salary $85.-00. The board received $1,000 in a municipal grant and $1,374 from the province. The -report was presented by Mrs. George Hawkins, secretary­ treasurer.
